Job Locations: US-VA-Smithfield (North Plant) US-NC-Tar Heel US-KY-Middlesboro US-NC-Kinston Your Opportunity:
This role is responsible for the successful development and implementation of Smithfield’s On-the-Job Training (OJT) Program in manufacturing. This requires partnering with manufacturing locations and OJT staff regarding successful onboarding and retention, learning, and developing new and existing employees.
Salary Range: $72,000 - $120,500 Core Responsibilities:
  • Leads communication from OJT team to plant and senior leadership.
  • Leads the regional OJT team meetings, maintains the team’s skills matrix.
  • Ensures successful implementation and sustainability of OJT Program across all Harvest and Packaged manufacturing locations.
  • Partner with manufacturing locations to identify and implement regular enhancements to the OJT Program as part of continuous improvement efforts using the M-IQ (manufacturing intelligence) tenets
  • Maintains an action list, team schedule, OJT performance by analyzing, evaluating and reporting on program effectiveness using key performance indicators.
  • Support locations on OJT talent acquisition and selection process.
  • Based on plant turnover, operational complexity (manning standards, production schedules, and product value) evaluate appropriate trainer to employee ratios by locations.
  • Develop, manage, and deploy SWAT training teams to locations that need specialized focus regarding manufacturing expansion, operations changes, new production lines, or significant process changes.
  • Partner with Talent Development to define and enhance the training schedule and development opportunities for trainers and trainees’ improvement.
  • Improve onboarding of new team members to improve retention.
  • Support M-IQ, complete tier meeting audits, perform GEMBA walks, where applicable engage in problem solving teams, and maintain M-IQ tenets.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university and 5+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
  • Minimum 2+ years’ experience in training in a production environment, required.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Capable of communicating and expressing ideas clearly and concisely, in both written and oral formats.
  • Knowledge and experience with the Microsoft Suite: including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Ability to lead a diverse work force.
  • Bi-lingual a plus.
  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
  • Must have ability to travel 50-75% to plant facilities.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
  • The majority of the time is spent in an office setting outside of the production plant. The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently required to sit, use hands to handle, or feel, and talk or hear.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
