Job Summary


This job is located in Willmar and surrounding area, MN

The Rehabilitation Therapist Supervisor will manage the programmatic and administrative functions at the Minnesota State Operated Community Services (MSOCS) vocational program in Austin which offers customized employment services and supports for individuals with cognitive/intellectual disabilities or related conditions. This position works primarily weekdays, with occasional evenings and weekends based on the needs of the individuals supported. Also requires regular travel to other DHS program sites, as well as to attend meetings and trainings.

The Rehabilitation Therapist Supervisor is responsible for oversight and coordination of support plans for the individuals supported, supervision of employees, management of fiscal resources, oversight of professional and other services contracts, and maintenance of the physical environment of areas assigned. This position may provide support to Vocational Rehabilitation Services referrals and is responsible for implementing CARF accreditation standards within the program areas. Implementation of Customized Employment approaches and following 245D licensing guidelines is required.

MSOCS Customized Employment Services sites are 100% community based and focus mostly on employment. Employees are trained in job coaching, individualized trainings based upon the individuals’ needs, as well as proficient in Customized Employment Training. The individuals that receive services from these programs need more 1:1 supports and prefer to be served in non-congregate settings. The focus is on employment and finding environments that will work well to meet their specific needs. MSOCS Customized Employment Services programs are located in the following communities: Austin, Willmar, Cloquet, Duluth and Shoreview (north metro areas).

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Supervisory, lead worker, or other leadership experience OR completion of leadership development program (L4, Emerging Leaders Institute, etc.)

Must meet the qualifications to be a Designated Coordinator:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to human services, and one year of full-time work experience providing direct care services to persons with disabilities or persons age 65 and older; OR
  • Associate’s degree in a field related to human services, and two years of full-time work experience providing direct care services to persons with disabilities or persons age 65 and older; OR
  • A diploma in a field related to human services from an accredited postsecondary institution and three years of full-time work experience providing direct care services to persons with disabilities or persons age 65 and older; OR
  • A minimum of 50 hours of education and training related to human services and disabilities; and four years of full-time work experience providing direct care services to persons with disabilities or persons age 65 or older under the supervision of a staff person who meets the qualifications in one of the categories above.

Candidates must also minimally meet these required qualifications:

  • 1 year experience writing or overseeing program plans;
  • Considerable knowledge of the care and treatment of mentally ill, cognitive/intellectually disabled, emotionally disturbed, Brain Injury or geriatric clients;
  • Ability to provide leadership by motivating, communicating, and engaging a diverse work group.
  • Ability to work rotating or irregular hours as needed, or directed, to complete on-site supervisory responsibilities. Ability to provide direct care as needed.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills sufficient to analyze and evaluate complex situations, resolve conflicts and provide guidance to direct reports, and individuals receiving services.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Communication skills sufficient to explain sensitive, controversial and confidential information to direct reports, individuals receiving services, labor and other partners in a clear and concise manner, while adhering to data privacy laws and requirements.
  • Ability to interpret financial statements, taking corrective actions, educating, and managing budget to ensure accountability.
  • Skills in Word Processing and spreadsheets;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; and
  • A valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

A minimum of three (3) years of Supervisory-level experience in a program providing direct support services or vocational services to individuals with disabilities or who are at least 65 years old.

Knowledge of:

  • Applicable licensing regulations;
  • Department of Labor regulations;
  • Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF)
  • Customized Employment;
  • Experience developing and obtaining competitive, integrated employment for people with disabilities.
  • Training, experience and education related to the primary disability of the persons supported; this includes, Cognitive/Intellectual Disabilities and Mental Illness.
  • Experience working with individuals with higher-level behavioral issues.
