The Siena College Department of Physics and Astronomy is accepting applications for a Temporary Research Assistant. Reporting to Dr. Matthew Bellis, Associate Professor of Physics and Astronomy.

The Research Assistant will explore different approaches to storing complex datasets using HDF5, specifically building on previous work by Dr. Bellis. The goal is to finalize development of an open-source format for heterogeneous datasets including, but not limited to particle physics, astrophysics and genomics. The final product will be distributed on Github and the python package index (PyPI).

Salary: $14.20/hour

A BS degree in physics, computer science, or related field is required.

Familiarity with the python programming language and basic physics concepts is required.

A willingness to learn new computing tools is also a requirement.

A background screening will be required.
