Job Summary
The role of Clinical Research Scientist (CRS) in the department of Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation will be primarily responsible for conducting meaningful empirical research on behalf of the Memorial Hermann Health System under the direction of the Director of Research. Effort devoted to clinical practice will be determined on an individual basis and under the direct supervision of the respective Clinic Manager/Director. The CRS will also be responsible for promoting collaborative research with our physician/healthcare partners and cultivating relationships within and outside of the Memorial Hermann Health System. The skills required for this role include being a licensed healthcare professional, and advanced research training and/or experience. Additional details regarding qualifications, roles and responsibilities are listed below.
Position is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the operating budget, as well as ensuring quality patient care, effective management of resources, appropriate staff competency, and regulatory compliance.
A physical therapist practicing direct access will examine and evaluate a patient's current conditions which may result in identification of movement and mobility dysfunction. A physical therapist practicing direct access will not diagnose an illness or disease. If a medical diagnosis has already been established by a qualified healthcare practitioner, the physical therapist will take it into consideration during the evaluation process. Job Description
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's or master's degree in related field (masters preferred) from an accredited university in a healthcare-related field (i.e. Medicine, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Athletic Training). PhD strongly preferred.
Licenses/Certifications: Current state licensure in related discipline
A physical therapist practicing direct access:
Education: Doctoral degree along with a residency or fellowship program, or licensed therapist with 30 hours of continuing competence activities in differential diagnosis
Licenses/Certifications: Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners license.

- Five (5) years experience in designated rehab discipline (clinical research experience preferred).
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience.

Principal Accountabilities
- Conduct clinical research using patients within the Memorial Hermann Health System and/or it partners
- Perform research activities including, but not limited to; protocol development, grant proposals, data collection, data analysis, manuscript writing and presenting
- Accountable to the Director of Research
- Clinical duties accountable to the respective Clinic Manager/Director consistent with the duties described for that respective healthcare field
- Teaching at the university, resident and/or fellowship level
- Prepare research studies and manage clinical datasets
- Pursue national/international orthopaedic publications and presentations in peer-reviewed journals and professional organizations
- Independently manage submission to the Internal Review Board and Memorial Hermann's Study Review panel for study accreditation
- Provide mentorship to Memorial Hermann employees involved in Clinical Research
- Pursue funding for de novo research projects/programs
- Supervises, manages, counsels, rewards, evaluates, hires, and terminates staff.
- Determines appropriate staffing needs, trains/orients new employees, and assesses competency levels.
- Maintains budget requirements including the evaluation and acquisition of equipment.
- Develops and implements new programs; refines existing programs.
- Conducts meetings to relay information to staff, identify problems, and discuss solutions.
- Develops/refines/implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services.
- Interacts with other departments, directors, employees, physicians, outside agencies and organizations.
- Participates in marketing and promotion within the hospital, as well as within the community.
- Provides direct patient care as needed.
- Presents relevant special topics in professional literature at clinic meetings, grand rounds, conferences, university settings and meetings as delegated or requested by the faculty.
- Ensures safe care to patients adhering to policies, procedures, and standards, within budgetary specifications, including time management, supply management, productivity, and accuracy of practice.
- Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency, supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
