NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs


If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range


$101,400 - $201,400

  • Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

If so, Organization 07228 (W88 ALTs 370/940 Product Realization) is seeking a highly motivated R&D Systems Engineer to join the team! The selected candidate will leave every single day from work knowing they have played critical part in keeping our country safe and secure. If this motivates you, the Product Realization Lead (Experienced) position for the W88 ALT370 and ALT940 programs, may be for you!

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Be the main point of contact for Weapon Production programs (i.e. W88 ALT370, W88 ALT940, B61-12) activity needs identified by System level counterparts at the CNS/Pantex Plant (Pantex);
  • Improve Product Specification and Specific Use Specification documents as needed;
  • Collaborate with Pantex, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and Lockheed Martin counterparts on any improvements to Pantex procedures;
  • Support inter-site logistics planning and actions to ensure Pantex is driving the Weapon System results;
  • Provide status briefings to National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and DOD partners as needed and during management reviews;
  • Monitor and support components and hardware being shipped to Pantex in support of Pantex production;
  • Team with counterparts at LANL to ensure high production readiness levels and effective problem solving;
  • Coordinate with Systems Surveillance with respect to hardware provisioning in support of the weapon system state of health monitoring;
  • Update SNL management on production and First Production Unit status;
  • Support the ongoing production and support resolving technical issues as the occur;
  • Provide system expertise and engineering authorizations to minimize impact of production interruptions at Pantex.

Qualifications We Require

  • Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or relevant STEM field with 1 year of experience; OR Bachelor's degree in stated field with 5 years of experience.
  • Experience with ND programs, processes, customer, and support organizations.
  • Experience with production processes and high consequence systems integration.
  • Experience in assembly processing and product testing.
  • Experience with design definition (AY, ML, RD, SS, etc.) protocol and processes (EA, RD/DR, etc.).
  • Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent is required to start.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Two or more years of demonstrated leadership experience, with strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to continuously improve and learn.
  • Deep understanding of nuclear explosive safety as it pertains to safety basis at PX and how SNL provides support.
  • A desire to help internal and external team members improve and be successful.
  • Demonstrated ability in effectively collaborating with Production Agencies external to Sandia and preferably Pantex.
  • Demonstrated ability in effectively collaborating with Design Agencies external to Sandia; LANL and Lockheed Martin.
  • Demonstrated dedication to one or more ND technical mission areas.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an SCI clearance and/or special access.

Group 7220 is comprised of 8 departments entrusted with maintaining the integrity of the nation’s nuclear stockpile. Each department is strongly coordinated across the group and together lead all aspects of maintaining the technical basis for the W76-0/1/2, W78, W88/W88 ALT370, B61-3/4/7/11. In addition to established stockpile work there are a multitude of development and qualification projects including JTAs, Mk4B, W88 ALT940 (ISA program) and other various ALTs. Production activities for several systems continue at KCNSC and require frequent communication. Additionally, group 7220 leads the development of testers and operational activities for hardware management and engineering leadership for all test body assembly & disassembly activities. This group also collaborates with test and computational simulation organizations to manage schedule and budget associated with qualification.

Security Clearance


Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
