Position summary
This is a key appointment in the binational BRAINWAVES project that brings together researchers from Aberystwyth University, University College Cork, and industry. The primary purpose of the role is to support the PI in the administrative management of the project.
The Research Support Officer-Administration post has an expected duration of 9 months (January 23 – September 23), subject to the terms of the project, on a part-time basis (80% of FT).
BRAINWAVES is an Ireland – Wales funded, interdisciplinary project that is centred on the development of duckweed-systems for the sustainable remediation of farmyard waste. The project uses a circular economy approach to manage slurry and dirty water, developing duckweed technology to remediate these wastewaters, to generate economically valuable feed, and thus to enhance the competitiveness of the beef and dairy industries. This is an exciting research-area that directly address government and EU policies. The Research Support Officer will closely work with a postdoctoral researcher and the PI at UCC. The Research Support Officer will also work closely with the co-PI and a postdoctoral researcher in Aberystwyth. Key roles for the Research Support Officer are to manage financial claims through the “WEFO-online” system, and to manage both the external evaluation of the project, and the final reporting.
A modest amount of travel, mostly between Cork and Aberystwyth is to be anticipated.
The duties of the successful candidate will include:
  • Pro-actively working with the PI to manage all administrative aspects of the Ireland-Wales funded BRAINWAVES project
  • Liaising with counterparts at Aberystwyth University
  • Recruiting of, and liaising with industrial stakeholders
  • Developing PR material, and actively engaging in outreach activities
  • Organisation of workshops and demonstration events
  • Report writing and presentation delivery

Salary: €34,811 p.a. (Personal Rate), pro rata 0.8 FTE
