The Sigma Division Operations group is looking for a customer focused, detail oriented individual to provide programmatic Materials Control & Accountability (MC&A) support for nuclear material operations within the Sigma Complex. You will provide integral support for Sigma Division and it's groups (Sigma-1, Sigma-2, and Sigma-Ops).
In this position, you will process a high volume of transactions in the Local Area Nuclear Material Accountability System (LANMAS) database for material transactions, and nuclear material processing for Sigma Complex. You will provide complex accounting and technical support for nuclear material operations, as well as assisting the MC&A office with day-to-day operations.
This position will be filled at the Research Technologist 1/2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
You will report to the Sigma-Ops Group Leader, under the daily direction of the Sigma Materials Accountability Team (MC&A Team) Leader. You will be responsible for the following:
Research Technologist 1 ($81,700 - $133,100)
- Become a Nuclear Material Control and Accountablity (MC&A) Custodian
- Perform LANMAS Transactions for Sigma Division
- Perform Item Adjustments and work with SAFE-NMCA on accounting transactions
- Precious Metals Custodian or Alternate
- Provide training support for the MC&A Team
- Assist with writing, updating and reviewing current policies and procedures for the MC&A Team, and updating Material Balance Area (MBA) Fact Sheets
- Perform MAR (Material at Risk) Calculations
- Support Packaging and Shipment Operations primarily as a validator when needed by the shipment sector.
- Assist with TOS (Termination of Safeguards), PVD (Programmatic Value Determination), and Waste Disposition of Sigma Nuclear Material Waste as needed
- Lead efforts on implementing a new nuclear material ticketing/tracking system for Sigma Division
Research Technologist 2 ($90,000 - $147,100)
In addition to the duties outlined above, the Research Technologist 2 will:
- Possess advanced level knowledge of database systems (LANMAS, CPIMS, Sharepoint, etc.)
- Possess advanced level knowledge with working with nuclear materials.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to Sigma personnel regarding material transactions & nuclear material operations.
- Possess advanced level knowledge on general waste operations.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions, procedures, plans, emergency, safeguards, and security procedures.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and strong organizational skills.
- Interest in working with radiological material, hazardous material, and/or classified matter management, accountability (MC&A), construction, coordination, packaging, transportation, DOT regulations, storage and disposition of waste
- Demonstrated experience interacting in a customer service-related setting and ability to work cohesively in a team environment to meet high demand schedule deliverables
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including: Word, Excel, powerpoint, etc.
- Demonstrated skill in accounting or equivalent database systems. (LANMAS, CPIMS, Sharepoint, etc.) LANMAS experience is preferrable, but not required
- Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance, which typically requires US citizenship
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working with nuclear material
- Demonstrated history of organizational skills and familiarity with running an office.
- Demonstrated knowledge of nuclear materials control and accountability, including the use of LANMAS/LAMCAS software
- Knowledge and experience in nuclear materials accountability practices and accounting systems including associated tracking and documentation requirements, policies, procedures, etc.
- Experience in producing written documentation requiring a high level of attention to detail
Education/experience at the lower level:
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/experience at the higher level:
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q/SCI (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
- Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
