Job description
Research in our lab is focused on bacterial pathogens, and understanding both the bacterial and host mechanisms that impact antibiotic efficacy. Our lab studies heterogeneity within pathogenic bacterial populations with a long-term goal of utilizing this information to develop more effective therapeutics for treating bacterial infection. We have primarily utilized fluorescence detection-based approaches to detect heterogeneity within the bacterial population; these techniques include fluorescence microscopy, immunofluorescence microscopy of infected host tissues, flow cytometry, and plate reader-based assays. These assays are typically performed in both bacteriological media and in our mouse model of infection, and are coupled with approaches to isolate subpopulations of interest for downstream analyses. A full-time Research Technologist is needed to perform basic research-related tasks, and also contribute to research projects in the lab.The successful candidate will be initially trained in basic molecular biology techniques and sterile technique, which will enable the technician to perform basic lab responsibilities and also contribute to research in the lab. The successful candidate will then have the opportunity to contribute to an independent research project, which would likely involve work with mouse models of infection, fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, plate reader-based assays, and basic tissue culture techniques.
