Roca is an internationally recognized community violence intervention organization that has been moving the needle on urban violence for more than three decades. The program is best known for its results. In recent years in Massachusetts, for example, 4 of 5 young men who came to Roca with a violent record stopped engaging in violence, and 95% of young men who completed two years of Roca were not re-incarcerated.
Founded in 2019, the Roca Impact Institute (RII) was created to support our partners in changing minds and practices to disrupt cycles of incarceration, poverty and racism. We equip public and private institutions and individuals working at the center of urban violence with tools and strategies to address trauma, reduce violence, and improve outcomes for young people. We do this by working with agencies that have significant impact on the young people most likely to shoot or be shot, by providing:
Training in trauma-informed interventions to build new knowledge, skills, and practices.- Facilitating the design and implementation of focused, coordinated approaches to supporting agency and systems change.
- Intensive coaching to build staff capacity and sustain it within agencies and systems.
In 2020, the Roca Impact Institute adapted Roca’s Rewire CBT: Skills for Living for Law Enforcement creating Rewire4 - a Cognitive Behavior Theory (CBT) training specifically for law enforcement officers and other criminal justice professionals. Rewire4 recognizes the unique challenges law enforcement officers face each day and offers a curriculum that can benefit them both personally and professionally. Rewire4 teaches brain science, trauma, cognitive behavioral theory and four skills to assist officers in staying focused, reading themselves, examine untrue and unhelpful thinking and acting intentionally based on their values. The training has an eight hour in person component and a six-month texting follow-up.
Position Background
This is a new position for the Roca Impact Institute focused on the implementation of Rewire4; the focus of this position curriculum delivery and coaching for Rewire4
This position will report to the Rewire4 Co-Directors and be a part of the Roca Impact Institute Team.
Position Responsibilities
Rewire4
- Collaborate with the Co-Directors of Rewire4 to expand and fully implement Rewire4.
- Conduct Rewire4 trainings
- Assist with coaching of contracted instructors
- Observe Rewire4 trainings
- Contribute to the on-going improvement of the curriculum
- Attend Rewire4 team meetings
- Assist with the follow up surveys and interview post trainings
- Provide feedback and support to the external evaluator for Rewire4.
- Work with the Co-Directors to adapt the curriculum and implement for other criminal justice and/or emergency service partners.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills Needed
- BA or equivalent experience
- Mandatory Law Enforcement and/or correctional experience (10 years or more)
- Experience delivering highly engaging training (2-5 years)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication and facilitation skills
- Unwavering belief in people’s ability to change
- Flexible, Creative, Persistent, Self-motivated, Curious
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and racial justice
- Full vaccination against COVID-19, subject to any accommodations under applicable law.
- Valid state issued driver’s license.
- The ability and willingness to travel and work a flexible schedule.
- Hours will generally be during the week, with the exception of occasional Sunday travel for a Monday training. Hours can be from early am to afternoon to be determined with Co-Directors of Rewire4 and needs of department training schedules.
