Purpose of the Post

This is a full time, Permanent Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist position in COPD Outreach based in Regional Hospital Mullingar but will also deliver services to patients in locations within Longford and Westmeath.

This role involves working as part of the Regional Hospital Mullingar COPD Outreach team providing in-patient and outpatient care to clients with COPD under the clinical governance of a Respiratory Consultant and in conjunction with the wider respiratory team.

The role has several components including early supported discharge, admission avoidance, follow up of patients in the domiciliary setting including new prescriptions of oxygen therapy and BiPAP, OPD review of clients including new assessment for oxygen therapy, and provision of pulmonary rehab classes in conjunction with the respiratory integrated care service in Longford/Westmeath.

The post holder will also:

• Contribute to business planning and business cases

• Develop and maintain guidelines and protocols relating to COPD outreach

• Develop and implement strategies as part of the COPD Outreach team for delivering effective COPD care within a changing environment.

• Engage in projects to raise the profile of the specialist service and team members.

• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case management activities to manage complex cases

The post holder will be expected to participate in the weekend on-call rota in Regional Hospital Mullingar as part of this role.
