South Jersey Behavioral Health is seeking a Staff Nurse (RN)-Under the supervision of the Director of Nurses or designee, the Staff Nurse (RN) provides assigned consumers ongoing assessment of their psychiatric and medical condition, provides medication and medical education to consumers, families and other team members.

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Conducting a comprehensive nursing assessment for each consumer admitted to the assigned program and a follow up assessment every 90 days.

Ensures all new consumers have an initial physical examination on admission and annually.

Assess the medical needs of each consumer and arranges for appropriate medical treatment and follow up in conjunction with other team members.

Reviews the outcome of each medical appointment and arranges follow up appointments or recommended diagnostic testing is scheduled and completed.

Assesses the consumer’s knowledge of any medical condition. Provides education to the consumer and others involved in his/her care

Perform an ongoing assessment of the consumers awareness and compliance with his/her prescribed medications and provide medication education to the consumer and others involved in the consumers treatment.

Administers injectable medication to consumers.

Works with consumers to help them resolve issues related to obtaining medication with a goal of increased independence.

Participates in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings.

Works closely with residential management in meeting the dietary restrictions of identified consumers and in providing other consumers a healthy meal plan.

Routinely meets with residential counselors to provide guidance on documentation, implementation of service plan, address medical issues or concerns and provide assistance on any medical devices that a consumer may be using.

Reports evidence of the presence of communicable disease and gathers appropriate information

Participates in the agency-wide infection control committee.

Participates in monthly training of new employees on residential policies and procedures.

Works closely with residential management on issues related to consumers medication and medical needs and appointments.

Conducts monthly medication audits.

Coordinates consumer health information amongst all healthcare providers including agency programs.

Maintains accurate and complete records.

Participates in continuing education activities to maintain knowledge/skills required for professional competency in order to provide the best quality of care to consumers.


Job Requirements

Certifications, Licenses/Registrations


Current License as a Professional Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey. CPR and First Aid Certification required upon hire. Valid Driver’s License required. Driver’s abstract must meet insurance carrier’s requirements.


Education and/Experience


Experience working in a psychiatric setting as a registered nurse.
