This position is one of two skilled statistician positions providing services to the Principal Investigators conducting research in CHPR.

Job Summary

Under direction of Principal Investigators provide a wide variety of statistical and statistical programming support services for research studies. Participate in meetings with study investigators both within and outside the institution to identify statistical design and analysis objectives and to present statistical planning and analysis results satisfying those objectives. Work with research personnel to identify and correct data values that are missing, out-of-range, or that may otherwise potentially threaten validity or efficiency of data analysis. Provide primary statistical programming support to refine and implement planned statistical analyses. Produce, interpret and communicate summaries of statistical analyses, including graphical and textual description of results for papers, abstracts and presentations. Manage analysis datasets, statistical programs and associated study documents to facilitate replication of analytical results by colleagues and external reviewers and to protect rights of research subjects. Conduct cost-effectiveness analysis under the supervision of an investigator with experience in cost-effectiveness analysis.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Lift/move filing boxes weighing up to 25 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Will work in a hybrid/remote environment and may need to work onsite with less than 24 hours’ notice.
  • Requires some extended hours to meet high priority deadlines.
  • Must be able to travel 5-10% of the time, typically in Sacramento.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Masters in biostatistics, economics or equivalent coursework, including probability, statistics, analytical and graphical descriptive summaries of data, one-sample and two-sample t-tests, correlation analyses, and regression models for continuous, including generalized linear models.
  • Experience with analysis of clinical and health outcomes data. Experience with Windows operating system. Oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively at a professional level with a variety of research personnel and colleagues with varying technical backgrounds.
  • Experience in simulations and resampling (e.g. bootstrap) and programming. Interpersonal skills to work in a collaborative research setting.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Analytical and investigative skills to elicit information needed to clarify inquiries and requests or methods and procedures.
  • Skills to assist with the development and implementation of innovative statistical approaches to solve complex analytical requirements. Working knowledge of MS Office products (MS Word, MS Excel, and Power Point). Computer skills with proficiency in SAS or Stata programming and analysis. Familiarity with i) Markov models in Excel and ii) net benefit regression.
  • Organizational skills to function independently, keep track of multiple projects, work to meet specific deadlines, and document procedures.
  • Knowledge of methods for exploratory and descriptive analysis of data, including demonstrated facility with the application of t-tests, and generalized linear models, multivariate methods, and methods for cost-effectiveness analysis.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Ph.D. in economics, biostatistics, or related field.
  • Experience with helping clinical and other non-technical investigators.
  • Experience with making a Markov Model in Excel.
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Familiarity with methods for observational data analysis (e.g., instrumental variables, propensity scores, etc.).
