Aspen Waste Systems is looking for an experienced Safety Manager to assist in the company’s safety management practices and policies at our Missouri and Iowa locations.

Aspen provides waste and recycling collection services for commercial and residential customers in the metropolitan areas of Minneapolis/St. Paul, St. Louis and Des Moines. With revenues of over 100 Million and growing, Aspen Waste Systems is among the 20 largest waste haulers in the nation.

The Safety Manager is responsible for managing Aspen Waste Systems safety programs for four Missouri and Iowa work sites. This includes the following locations:

• 13710 Green Ash Ct Earth City, MO
• 84 Fairmont City Blvd. Fairmont City, IL
• 1800 E Euclid Ave Des Moines, IA
• 2827 Hyatt Circle Ames, IA

The Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring that all safety policies and procedures are communicated to employees and are administered correctly at each site. The Safety Manager will be responsible for identifying and correcting any potential issues or workplace hazards. This position ensures a safe working environment for all employees at each worksite in the Des Moines and St Louis areas. Duties include:

• Implement and manage the company’s health and safety plans and procedures relating to company fleet safety policies, OSHA, FMCSA, DOT, and other relevant rules and regulations.
• Provide safety training for employees on those policies, regulations and procedures
• Advise the company’s administrative team on safety issues and compliance in specific projects and operations
• Inspect and verify company compliance with relevant safety programs
• Maintain accurate and current records in accordance with guidelines
• Analyze incident reports, metrics and injury case studies in order to institute changes
• Monitor employee conformity to safety laws and policies
• Suggest solutions, improvements and prevention steps for safety issues

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Both office environment and varying indoor and outdoor environments. May be exposed to heat, cold, rain, snow and other outdoor elements. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Must be able to lift, push, pull, carry up to 50 lbs.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety or related field or commensurate experience preferred.
• 3-5 years of education and experience in a safety-related field
• Preferred knowledge of the applicable regulations
• Smith System certified
• Ability to make well-informed decisions in both routine and emergency situations
• Demonstrated understanding of FMCSA, DOT and OSHA regulations compliance
• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both written and verbally
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
