Summary:

Support the organisation in establishing a safe workplace according to legal standards and which fosters a culture of pride in safety and personal ownership.

Responsible for monitoring and assessment of hazardous and unsafe situations, development of measures to ensure focus is on prevention.

Responsibilities

  • Support Safety Officer II to ensure the organization meets its statutory obligations in all EHS areas and supports the fostering of a safe workplace environment without risk to health.
  • Support the development and implementation of EHS policies, procedures and programmes across the organisation.
  • Ensure that all EHS policies, procedures and programmes are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated.
  • Responsible for the completion and regular review of risk assessments and implementation of findings where appropriate
  • Support on preventive measures to ensure the business is engaged in implementing such measures and also in support of future Technical Operations projects.
  • Ensure that all incidents are documented, investigated and recommended improvements implemented. Responsible for the EHS logs and CAPA tracking. Support and coordinate adverse event reporting.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to the organisation on various EHS related topics.
  • Co-ordinate the internal EHS audits and ensure that internal auditors are supported accordingly.
  • Support any external EHS audits with co-ordination of audit activities and action plans.
  • Complete GEMBA walks in laboratories
  • Ensure compliance of EHS, generate and use metrics to measure compliance and assess EHS data across the organisation.
  • Support EHS inspections, risk assessment and lone working procedures and ensuring that employees are aware of their responsibilities.
  • Conduct and support Safety training and ensure accurate safety training records are maintained.
  • Improve awareness of EHS across the organisation.
  • Adhere to and improve business processes as required.
  • Share information, suggestions and observations to create consistency in EHS standards across the organisation.
  • Manage the relationship with external vendors.
  • Participate in relevant forums and committees e.g. emergency response, QMS/SMS, training, lab safety etc. as required
  • Prepare and deliver training materials to colleagues.

Requirements

  • Degree level or equivalent in Occupational Health and Safety (science focus) and/or Degree level or equivalent in life sciences
  • Experience in Occupational Health and safety
  • Experience of occupational hygiene would be an advantage
  • Experience in Lean Six Sigma would be an advantage
  • At least two years' experience working in the pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical industry or R&D and/or laboratory environment
  • Good working knowledge of MS office
  • Excellent technical report writing skills
  • Ability to work autonomously or as part of a diverse team
  • Working knowledge of factors impacting on health and well-being
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise
  • Flexible and be able to adapt within a changing environment
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and planning skills
