Saw Operator Job Description

A Saw Operator interprets cut lists and drawings to cut various steel, stainless, and aluminum parts to size using the appropriate cutting equipment while keeping final lengths, copes, miters, and notches within project tolerances. This position is first shift, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, and overtime is frequently available – the amount of available overtime depends on project workload.

Saw Operator responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Operating band saws, chop saws, and power tools

· Cut, mark, and organize material for fabricators

· Basic preventative maintenance and workstation housekeeping

· Changing blades, brushes, coolant, and other consumables

· Keeping track of cut parts

· Basic computer skills for job scanning

· Helping with other fabrication tasks such as material handling, drilling, grinding, etc.

Requirements:

· Blueprint comprehension

· Add and subtract fractions, nest parts, and track large orders with multiple part types

· Use tape measure, protractor, square, and other measuring equipment

· Operate overhead crane, pallet jack, and similar equipment

· Lift 25-50lb. without assistance, heavier material will be lifted using the equipment above

· Understand bend allowances, material grain, and bending limitations

Preferred skills and/or willingness to learn:

· Forklift operator

· Shear operator

· Material loading and unloading

· Spanish proficiency preferred but not required
