JOB TITLE: School Nurse
EXEMPT (Y/N): No SALARY RANGE: $50,000-$55,000
SHIFT: As Scheduled DIVISION: Residential
LOCATION: Upper and Lower Campus DEPARTMENT: Health Center
SUPERVISOR: Lower Head of Campus, Upper Head of Campus
Ojai Valley School is a pre-kindergarten to grade 12 boarding and day school located on two campuses in Ojai,
California. The Lower Campus serves students in grades PK-8 and the Upper Campus serves students in grades 9-12.
Summary of Position
Ojai Valley School is looking for a School Nurse to oversee the health and wellness of our student body and is
responsible for assisting with the operation of the Health Center. This position reports directly to the Lower Head of
Campus and Upper Head of Campus. Candidates should possess interest and experience in assessing illness and
injury and promoting general health and well-being in students ranging from 3 to 18 years of age. In addition to
hands-on care and health coaching, Health Center sta� will coordinate student appointments and oversee student
health records and medications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Maintains and updates student health records.
2. Assesses student and sta� injuries and illnesses.
3. Carries the school’s “on-call” cell phone during the school week to respond to emergencies. Provides phone
triage immediately and responds in person within one hour of initial call, if required.
4. Arranges medical evaluation by physicians, nurse practitioners, psychologists, psychiatrists or medical
specialists for students and sta� as needed.
5. Aids in the transportation to and from medical appointments.
6. Accompanies students, when necessary, to medical appointments.
7. Schedules follow-up treatment and rehabilitation.
8. Corresponds extensively with parents/guardians on any medical issues concerning their child.
9. Maintains a well-stocked and prepared Health Center.
10. Provides �rst aid kits and medical releases for all camping, backpacking, and �eld trips.
11. Participates in identi�cation of unsafe student activity and assumes responsibility for intervention.
12. Assists Athletic Department with injury prevention.
13. Participates in dorm, faculty, and division meetings.
14. Reports pertinent information to the appropriate sta� or department.
15. Documents student and sta� medical information clearly, accurately and legally.
16. Procures and administers prescribed and over-the-counter medication.
17. Prepares medication for OVS sta� to administer.
18. Assumes designated role in the event of a �re or disaster.
19. Maintains professional standing through required continuing education to increase professional
competence and to meet personal needs and goals.
20. Educates students and sta� on those subjects related to health and wellness.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

RN required
- Experience working in education and/or experience working with children and
adolescents
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and
procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak e�ectively before
groups of parents or employees of the organization. In addition, the following communications are required.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and
decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited
standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule
form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
1. BLS or CPR or Health Care Professional CPR/AED Certi�cation
2. California Driver's License required.
