Reports to the Director, Professional Services & Business Development (BHV). Responsibilities include the overall management of South Bend Community School Corporation (SBCSC) school nurse program staff and operations. Maintaining quality health care standards according to established policies, procedures and regulations. Functions as Health Services Coordinator as defined by the Indiana Administrative Code governing student health services.

Manages all facets of the SBCSC school nurse program and ensures the delivery of quality health care services while maintaining a strong focus on customer service and efficient operations by:
- Ensuring the appropriate selection and staffing of school nurses in order to provide for quality care.
- Conducting skills validation for all school nurses upon hire and annually.
- Planning, coordinating and providing ongoing training for staff. Also ensuring that each new team member receives a comprehensive orientation.
- Ensuring that the team members fulfill their responsibilities according to established policies and procedures.
- Modeling behaviors and holding the associates responsible for demonstrating such behaviors when performing their responsibilities.
- Preparing and conducting performance reviews. Also coaching and counseling associates and initiating disciplinary action when warranted.
- Conducting school visits to assess the compliance of school nurses with policies and practices and to assure the quality of the care provided.
- Conducting meetings and maintaining records, reports and files as required.
- Coordinating ongoing education for school nurses and offering health education to students and staff as needed.
- Communicating with the school nurses on a regular basis to ensure they have updated information regarding operational procedures that are necessary for effective job performance.
- Acting as liaison between the school nurse and the principal as it relates to discipline, process improvement, etc
- Serving as a resource for principals, parents and staff throughout the corporation.
- Investigating and providing follow-up responses to complaints, unusual occurrences, incident reports, and other issues as they relate to care and service.
- Working with the SBCSC to develop and implement policies, procedures and guidelines for student health programs. Also ensuring policies and procedures are appropriate and within compliance of regulatory agencies.
- Collecting, compiling and analyzing of all data required for filing mandatory state screening reports and calculation of monthly corporation communicable disease and immunization reports.
- Serving as liaison between BHV, SBCSC and public health and welfare agencies as it relates to students within the corporation.
- Working in conjunction with community leaders, health related groups and relevant social services groups to advocate, develop and implement programs focused on health promotion and disease prevention
- Preparing and submitting necessary reports, which provide an overview of operations, on a periodic basis.
- Assisting in the development of the school nurse program budget and administering the budget insure financial targets are met.
- Ensuring adequate level of supplies and equipment are ava ilable for associates' use; also maintaining all related records.
- Following BHV and Beacon Health System (BHS) established policies and procedures; also making recommendations to Director as appropriate.
- Functioning as a school nurse when necessary due to staffing issues.
Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:
- Meeting with the associates on a regular basis to share information and address questions and/or concerns.
- Developing and maintaining ongoing quality improvement plans in order to ensure exceptional customer experiences.
- Interacting in a positive, proactive and cooperative manner when providing information, seeking assistance or clarification and resolving problems.
- Communicating with the Director regarding potential problems in a timely manner.
- Participating on committees as requested.
- Completing other job-related assignments and special projects as directed.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience
- The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with a valid RN license to practice in the State of Indiana. Three to five years of related health care experience in nursing education, public health, community nursing, pediatrics or home health required. Prior management/supervisory experience strongly preferred. Must have and maintain current CPR certification. A valid driver's license and a good driving record are required.

- Requires the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships and to ensure ongoing rapport and support.
- Demonstrates proficiency in computer skills (i.e., email, word processing and spreadsheets).
Working Conditions
- Works in an office or school environment.
- Travel within the SBCSC district is required.
- Will assume "on call" responsibilities.

- Requires the physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the position.
