Job description
We encourage you to apply to become an AmeriCorps VISTA member with Turning the Page, a dynamic organization providing parents in Chicago public schools with critical skills and educational resources to become more active and effective participants in their children’s education. A TTP priority in the coming school year is to provide parents with as much support as possible as students continue to recover from the academic challenges faced during the pandemic. Turning the Page will thus be addressing the learning loss that may be occurring because of the pandemic and remote learning; providing parents with concrete steps they can take to support learning in the home, collaborate with their children’s teachers, and identify supplemental community resources. Our VISTA members this coming year will play an integral role in ensuring that Turning the Page has the capacity to continue to provide this critical service to parents and families in Chicago. AmeriCorps*VISTA members at TTP participate in activities across TTP and receive valuable experience learning how nonprofits work. Their year of service will provide VISTA members with new skill-sets leading to a wide variety of career choices. TTP VISTA members have gone on to teach, join the staff of varied non-profits, entered graduate programs, and more.
Member Duties : Turning the Page’s School Partnership VISTA members will be responsible for helping TTP strengthen its school partnerships in the West Side community of North Lawndale by working together with school staff and parents to build and sustain successful family recruitment and engagement platforms at each of two school partners and by supporting parent leadership capacity efforts (including providing strategic guidance and technical assistance to Parent Advisory Councils). VISTA members will help create evaluation measures, collecting, analyzing and utilizing data to inform growth and improvement, assisting with family and staff engagement efforts at partner schools, documenting program activities and outcomes through photography, parent anecdotes and quotes and participation and support of general evaluation efforts. VISTA members will also attend and provide support to Family Room, Community Night, Parent Leadership, and Summer Learning activities.
