What You’ll Do
Under the direct supervision of the Administrator, and in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the Ingham Intermediate School District, the School Social Worker is responsible for providing supportive services for eligible students enrolled in regular, vocational or special education programs. The School Social Worker will focus on student evaluation, provision of direct and indirect services, and collaborative consultation with staff, parents, agency personnel and administrators.
- Provides consultative services to staff and parents within a defined pre-referral process working with students who are suspected of having a disability but are not yet eligible for special education.
- Provides comprehensive social work evaluation of students referred for suspected emotional impairments, ADD/ADHD or autism as part of the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team through the Individualized Education Program Evaluation Team process.
- Provides school social work services and periodic reporting of student progress, as determined by the Individualized Education Program team, to eligible students.
- Coordinates with and provides consultation in behavioral and social functioning areas for general and special education staff and school administrators working with eligible students.
- Provides and assists with functional behavioral assessments for eligible students, along with the development, and implementation of individual behavior plans for these students as needed.
- Serves as liaison between the school, family and community mental health resources for eligible students on social work caseload.
- Assists with inservice and training for staff and parents on positive behavior supports for students.
- Completes and maintains documentation of services provided in accordance with district policies and procedures.
- Supervises school social work student internships as appropriate.
What You’ll Bring
Need to Have
- Approval by the State Department of Education as a school social worker.
- Master’s Degree in Social Work.
- One year of experience in school social work practice in a school setting which can include master’s level social work internship.
- Knowledge and theoretical content in treatment modes for school social work practice.
- Demonstrated skills and successful experience in counseling/therapy with individuals, groups of students, and their families.
- Knowledge of the requirements of state and federal mandates which directly affect school social work services and special education.
- Ability to work and effectively communicate with administrators, staff, agencies, medical providers, students and their families.
- Self-directedness and initiative when given a variety of responsibilities and assigned tasks.
- Ability to make decisions and problem solve within a team of service providers.

Working Conditions
The School Social Worker will be provided office space within educational settings. This position requires daily travel, for which the staff member must provide transportation. This position will interface with LEA and IISD staff, community providers, agency personnel, and families.
