Please note: this position is paid on an hourly basis and limited to 1500 hours per calendar year. The salary range for Scientific Aid is $16.07 - $19.07 per hour.

The State Water Resources Control Board, Los Angeles Region, has an opening for Scientific Aid in the Standards and TMDL Unit, as part of the Clean Water Act (CWA) Section 401 Certification and Waste Discharge Requirements Program. The position is located at 320 W. 4th St, Suite 200, Los Angeles, CA 90013.

As part of the 401 Program, you will contribute to the preservation of California’s water quality by regulating activities that will result in an impact to surface water through the disturbance of a streambed, wetland, or the ocean floor. You will support the 401 Program by assisting staff in processing permit applications and drafting 401 certifications, responding to stakeholders’ requests, maintaining our databases, and helping in the day-to-day activities of the program. You will also have the opportunity to regularly join our team in field inspections to review potential impacts to water resources.

The position offers significant professional development opportunities, as you will be able to develop a greater understanding of complex water-related technical issues and to gain practical knowledge of federal and state regulations and policies and their application, including the Clean Water Act (CWA) and the California Porter Cologne Act.

Salary information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience.
