Upholstery Seamstress and Tailor

Artisan Interiors is a prominent company in residential/commercial reupholstery and custom-to-order furniture manufacturing in Northern California and Reno/NV. The shop is in the center of Sacramento’s industrial area with continuous orders and strong growth.

We are looking for Seamstresses and Tailors with a strong work ethic, openness to being coached, a willingness to learn, integrity, honesty, willingness to collaborate as a team, and a self-starter.

We are hiring multiple positions for experienced Seamstresses and Tailors who have preferably worked with furniture, boat, and auto upholstery.

This is a physical job so employees must be able to sit, stand, reach, and carry as needed to complete tasks in a timely manner on a full shift (8 hours). Capable of carrying, lifting, and handling furniture, fabric bolts, materials, packages, etc. up to 45 pounds.

Must arrive at work on time, be reliable, trainable, attentive to detail, and be drug-free at work. Follow established processes and procedures at work. Willingness to be cross-trained in other skills as required. Assist in facility cleaning.

Experienced Seamstresses and Tailors must be able to do the tasks below with high attention to detail and quality under the supervision of the Lead Upholsterer and Master Upholsterer. Strong sewing experience and skills in furniture upholstery are essential.

1. Operate industrial sewing machines at high speed.

2. Operate industrial surging machines at high speed.

3. Determine amounts and types of covering materials for each furniture piece.

4. Sew upholstery by hand to seam cushions and join various sections of upholstery materials if necessary.

5. Measure, cut, and sew covering materials of solid color.

6. Measure, cut, and sew new covering materials that have large fabric pattern print which requires measurements and symmetrical matching.

7. Measure, cut, and sew furniture skirts.

8. Measure, cut, and sew cushion slipcovers.

9. Sew single top stitch design on single needle industrial sewing machine.

10. Sew double top stitch design on dual thread industrial sewing machine.

11. Perform other related upholstery sewing tasks as assigned or be willing to be trained to do so.

12. Measure, cut, and trim foam with hand tools as well as change foam inserts out of cushions. Stuff cushions with polyester batting and down-fill feathers.

Other Preferred Qualifications:

· Experience designing, cutting, and sewing various cushion styles in boxed-edge, knife-edge, single-welted, double-welted, and cushion ties.

· Experience designing, cutting, and sewing various throw pillow styles.

· Create button tufting using needles, thread, and hand tools.

· Design, cut, and sew various window upholstery styles.

· Design, cut, and sew new slipcovers from scratch for entire furniture pieces such as chairs and couches.

Hours: 8-hour shift 6:00a-2:30p Monday thru Friday with occasional variable hours in the early mornings and late evenings as well as weekends when necessary.

Job Type: 40-hour work week. Full-time, part-time, and contract positions are available.

Pay: Competitive pay typically ranges from $15.50-$28 per hour.

Work Location: Industrial warehouse facility in the heart of Sacramento.
