Job description
Who we are
Shellpoint Mortgage Servicing (SMS) is one of America’s top-five non-bank mortgage-servicing companies. What is mortgage servicing? Our clients are businesses that own mortgage loans (such as banks and real estate investment firms). On their behalf, we manage (or “service”) their loan portfolios, which means that we collect homeowners’ mortgage payments, pay their tax and insurance bills, and help homeowners in default to get current.

Primary Function
The position involves accounting for mortgage servicing transactions, primarily including loan transactions, hedging activity, fair value analysis and recordation. Transaction details come from a variety of sources and require advanced spreadsheet skills to summarize, track and reconcile.
Principal Duties
  • Assume primary responsibility for recording all Loan Early Buy-out (“EBO”) related activity.
  • Prepare various journal entries and account reconciliations related to EBO’s to facilitate monthly close deadlines.
  • Assist in preparation of financial reporting information as required for SEC, statutory and compliance related reporting.
  • Maintain spreadsheet models and reports used in the accounting process.
  • Ability to understand process flow and how your tasks affect the larger picture.
  • Collaborate with our business partners in Servicing, Capital Markets and Treasury to resolve issues and build efficiencies.
  • Work with internal and external auditors and examiners to provide accurate, complete, and timely information.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 3+ years of related accounting experience required.
  • Mortgage industry experience preferred.
  • Public accounting experience preferred.
  • Very proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Must have very strong analytical and reconciliation skills using advanced spreadsheet functions.
  • Must be able to understand complex transactions, with strong attention to detail.
  • Team oriented with ability to interact within and outside of the organization.
  • Ability to self-motivate and flexibility to collaborate with business associates in a remote workforce if needed.
  • Must be able to handle multiple priorities and meet daily deadlines with quality in a fast-paced, very complex environment.
While this description is intended to be an accurate reflection of the position’s requirements, it in no way implies/states that these are the only job responsibilities. Management reserves the right to modify, add or remove duties and request other duties, as necessary.
