Senior Accountant (E)
A. PRINCIPAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
With minimal supervision, timely, accurately and efficiently prepares and analyzes financial information to satisfy external reporting requirements and to advise management in decision making related to the operations of the company, maintains day to day accounting operations in accordance with established accounting principles, practices and objectives, recommends solutions to moderately difficult problems and recommends to management changes in accounting systems, assists in identifying management informational needs, maintains good working relations with co-workers, internal customers, external customers and other company personnel. Substantial independent action and judgment are required in interpreting and analyzing information and data for external reporting requirements and in meeting the needs of internal customers.
B. DESCRIPTION OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Timely, accurately and efficiently performs the following job responsibilities, plus any other job responsibilities assigned by her or his supervisor; timely and accurately advises management on matters relating to her or his job responsibilities:
1. Monitors internal and external sources of financial information to ensure timely completion of job responsibilities;
2. Analyzes financial statement requirements;
3. Applies the principles, theories and concepts of accounting (statutory and
GAAP) in the preparation, analysis and interpretation of annual and quarterly statements, expense exhibits, state and federal taxes, premium tax calculations, budgets, projections, cash forecasts, inter-company reports and supplemental reporting requirements;
4. Analyzes a variety of accounting documents regarding accuracy of computations, for proper support of transactions, and for trends and deviations.
5. Reviews inconsistencies or errors in financial information and determines reasons for such inconsistencies;
6. Determines irregularities in financial statements and resolves variances;
7. Utilizes software programs or other specialized software to develop and prepare customized reports;
8. Recommends solutions or changes in procedures for various accounting problems;
9. Provides input for management informational needs;
10. Identifies and resolves the more complex problems associated with financial statements;
11. Prepares projections and forecasts of resources required to complete projects and objectives;
12. Analyzes department efficiency and advises management accordingly;
13. Coordinates regularly with accounting directors and key personnel in other departments to expedite solutions for problems affecting the accounting department;
14. Develops new analytical reporting formats and non-standard reports for analysis of financial information;
15. Creates as hoc reports on accounting matters;
16. Utilizes advanced statutory and GAAP accounting practices and maintains familiarity with SEC regulations for financial reporting;
17. Applies state and federal tax regulations;
18. Combines financial statements of affiliated companies;
19. Prepares reports, statements and accounts of a confidential nature;
20. Refines account structures, reports and procedures;
21. Mentors and helps train less experienced accounting personnel;
22. Develops, maintains and enhances good working relations with co-workers, internal and external customers and other company personnel with whom contact is necessary to perform her or his job responsibilities.
C. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Ability to:
1. Provide appropriate accounting services for the needs of internal customers and meet external requirements;
2. Efficiently utilize a personal computer and related software or similar machines/equipment to perform her or his job responsibilities;
3. Timely and accurately organize, prioritize and complete all job responsibilities and objectives;
4. Comprehend the most complex aspects of financial and statistical data;
5. Clearly, accurately and effectively communicate, both orally and in writing and both internally and externally;
6. Respond promptly and demonstrate an appropriate sense of urgency to changes in the accounting environment;
7. Work with minimal supervision;
8. Work in a harmonious manner, accept supervision and directions, and interact in a cooperative and professional manner with supervisors, co- workers and other company personnel;
9. Hear, see, and talk to effectively communicate in person and by telephone with supervisors, co-workers, internal customers, other company personnel, and external parties;
10. Read and understand written documents, including insurance and accounting terms and other factual information;
11. Frequently work on several tasks at the same time within assigned deadlines;
12. Frequently work rapidly and with intense concentration for long periods of time;
13. Frequently sit at a desk or other work station for extended periods of time;
14. Occasionally lift and carry equipment or materials weighing up to 15 pounds;
15. Routinely bend, kneel, reach, see, be mobile and walk around.

D. QUALIFICATIONS
- 4 year degree in Accounting
- 5 to 7 years of experience in the Accounting field
- Knowledge of personal computers with emphasis on Microsoft Excel
