Job Description:

The Fixed Assets Senior Accountant leads a team of staff accountants responsible for performing general accounting responsibilities, with a specialization in Fixed Assets. This individual is responsible for ensuring all financial schedules and deadlines are met and guarantees budgets are kept up to date and accurate. The Senior Accountant develops and maintains strong working relationships with internal departments and external vendors.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and assists the daily work of team members including analyzing, preparing, and researching financial information, invoice coding, and asset review to meet specific daily and monthly deadlines.
  • Reviews team members’ journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, and month-end schedules.
  • Supervises and mentors all team members to share knowledge and develop professional skills.
  • Reviews monthly activity for accuracy related to the acquisition of new assets and the disposal of retired assets.
  • Tracks the compilation of project costs into fixed asset accounts and capitalize the activity once the related projects have been completed.
  • Calculates and records capitalized salaries and interest.
  • Prepares significant year-end accounting estimates such as CIP accrual, impairment, and ARO.
  • Advises other leaders within the organization on the accounting treatment to be applied for new and/or complex transactions such as the proper capitalization of assets and lease accounting.
  • Prepare audit requests, respond to any audit related questions, and help prepare financial statement footnotes.
  • Manages and delegates ad-hoc reports/assignments as needed.
  • Reviews current processes to determine efficiencies.
  • Respond to any audit related questions that rise from the review of fixed asset, affiliate activity, and consolidations.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of department wide plans, goals, and deadlines.
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with internal departments; including but not limited to Legal, Real Estate, Construction, and Engineering.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University with a degree in accounting
  • CPA preferred
  • 3-5 years accounting experience; supervisory experience a plus
  • Strong understanding and working knowledge of US GAAP
  • Advanced experience using MS Office Suite, particularly Excel
