Senior Broadcast Engineer – First Line Response, RTÉ

RTÉ is looking for a talented Senior Broadcast Engineer to join the multi-disciplined First Line Response team.

The work First Line Response does is critical to how we broadcast out on Radio, TV and Online, ensuring content can make it to air from home and abroad. We are the people who come to the rescue when things fail. We keep RTÉ broadcasting to the nation.

What you will be doing?

The primary focus of this Senior Broadcast Engineer role is the operation and maintenance of broadcast critical equipment across a wide range of areas within RTÉ. Assisting with the support of IT and IP systems for broadcast critical elements of our infrastructure will also be a key component of this role.

Core Responsibilities include:

• Acts as the primary responder for broadcast critical output issues within RTÉ
• The undertaking of operational duties to support the broadcast enabling responsibilities of First Line Response, including the routing and patching of audio/video/IP feeds for output purposes
• Maintaining technical equipment and systems to the required safety and technical standards with minimum disruption to operational activities

Core Senior Responsibilities include:

• Acting when required as the lead engineer on shift, supporting the development of a comprehensive business focused approach to the department’s work
• Taking a proactive lead on the sharing of knowledge, development of documentation, mapping of systems and workflows, tracking of issues and resolutions, and correlating fault data
• Act as a mentor, coordinate training plans for individuals, provide high quality structured training, and champion the development of a multi-skilled Broadcast Engineering department

This role will temporarily act as the regular lead engineer on shift within the Tech Ops area, a sub-section of First Line Response while the department is currently going through a consultation process surrounding a restructure.

Successful applicants will need to demonstrate that they can provide exceptional decision making in a high-pressure environment, and the ability to lead groups in responding rapidly to issues as they occur. A high level of initiative is essential, and a proactive attitude in their working lives is especially important, as is the ability to be flexible when needed

The successful candidate must possess the following:

• The ability to lead by example and inspire colleagues to develop an attitude of continual development and improvement
• Proven experience and knowledge of broadcasting in an Engineering and Operational setting in either Audio, Television, Online/IP
• Excellent problem-solving skills, as well as attention to detail and intent to follow-up
• Strong hardware, software and IP/Networking skills
• The ability to excel in a fast-paced, self-directed, agile environment where strong technical, analytical, and problem-resolution skills are required
• Educated to degree level (3rd Level, or similar) in: Electronics, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Broadcasting, or a closely related subject

The role requires irregular working hours with a 7-day liability, 365 days of the year. A flexible and collaborative approach to work is also essential.

The role is being offered on a full-time ongoing contract on the Senior Broadcast Engineer grade and salary scale from €57,293 to €69,368 gross per annum.
