Role Summary:
Project Engineering prepares schedules, aligns resources, and performs technical activities related to engineering projects. While referred to as Order Engineering in some areas, employees in these roles may also be responsible for managing vendors and tracking project schedules to ensure projects are completed according to plans. While there are multiple business card titles, Project Engineering roles typically involve organizing team resources to ensure coordination and overall quality control of the work.
Provides engineering and technical support to all Services and Solutions personnel, Sales and customers to develop the best possible solutions to aftermarket jobs. Conducts technical interpretation of specifications, procedures, policies, quality, and equipment reliability to the various people that they interact with.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Develops detailed production drawings and manufacturing instructions as required for custom components and “engineered-to-order” products given prescribed performance requirements.
- Supports production by providing tactical advice and guidance on specification deviations and waivers and participates in Material Review Board activities where required.
- Provides primary customer interface/support to other internal functions, providing technical guidance to clarify project requirements.
- Prepares project plans in accordance with customer/contract requirements.
- Coordinates Project Engineer resources and directs activities in multiple projects.
- Provides tactical advice and guidance to manufacturing and suppliers regarding deviations and waivers to specifications
- Ensure that data is maintained in engineering systems; process engineering change notices; submit corrective action recommendations; and maintain current, accurate, and organized files.
- Work with other aftermarket engineers to investigate production problems relating to design or quality. Report findings and implement permanent improvements and solutions.
- Provide technical guidance and support for new customer proposals.
- Provide guidance to sales, tech services, service centers & customers and leads development of the work scope required in solving equipment problems through pump/system/operations modifications & upgrades via technical/commercial proposals.
- Direct the technical modification of programs & methods of solving problems and modify existing product designs to meet customer needs & to improve product life.
- Conduct design analyses using calculations, FEA’s, & other design verification methods and professionally report the results.
- Provide guidance in support of service centers in the inspection & analysis of pump elements.
- Lead cooperation with the Engineering Services Team, Product & Engineering Specialists, Product Management & corporate technology to provide “as needed” solutions to complicated pump problems.
- Work with other Design Engineers to direct the investigation and resolution of shop floor problems relating to design or quality issues; record & report findings, make corrections & develop and implement permanent, cost effective solutions.
- Identify and implement new/improved design standard and procedural documents.
- Completes technical fulfilment of job requirements
- Meets project timelines for engineering documentation and gathers approvals at the first issue
- Ensures customer satisfaction, accuracy and timeliness of customer documentation
- Provides rework or resubmittal documentation in agreed upon cycles to obtain approvals
- Provides non-conformance report resolutions for contract/customer specification issues
- Meets the reporting requirement applicable for the role
- Must meet all established safety goals
- Meets Engineering KPIs
- Compliant and timely Design Review reporting
Preferred Experience/Characteristics:
- Engineering degree or equivalent and/or 5+ years of related experience
- Strong leadership and talent development skills
- Demonstrate effective communication skills (verbal, writing, listening)
- 2D and 3D design experience (preferably Computer-Aided Design)
- Engineering documentation, drafting, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
- Collaborative interpersonal skills
- Accountability and execution for completing work timely and to specifications
- Computer skills in AutoCAD, Solidworks, Microsoft Office
- Experience with PLM, ERP, and other planning and engineering systems.
- Analysis tools
- General knowledge of metallurgical requirements & applications
- General knowledge of manufacturing processes
- Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) methodology understanding
- Strong proficiency in engineering & design software
- Solid understanding of pump applications and types; in-depth knowledge of hydraulic fundamentals and how these relate to pumps and pump systems
- Team-oriented; values communication and involvement of others
- Able to effectively self-manage; makes decisions around priorities
- Capable of working closely with internal and external customers (face to face or by telephone) and having good verbal and written communication skills
- High standard of written & spoken English; strong PC skills ; additional language skills desirable
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
