Primarily services a specific department, college or organized research unit.
Typical:
- Conduct market intelligence research to identify and market sponsored research opportunities that align with the University's/College's strengths, faculty expertise and specific research agendas.
- Engage in funding strategy meetings with PI/PDs and teams to include solicitation analysis, feedback on strategy, identifying collaborators or areas for collaboration, early budget conceptualization (as it relates to project scope), prior submission review commentary analysis/response, and explore alternative sources of funding.
- Consult with PI/PDs and collaborators to translate early ideas and concepts into competitive narratives for extramural funding, including advising on funding sources as well as strategies for meeting technical and broader impact or dissemination requirements.
- Provide individualized critical and editorial review of grant and other applications for extramural funding or scholarly awards/recognitions.
- In coordination with PI/PD and sponsored projects staff, streamline proposal development process for interdisciplinary or otherwise complex teams of researchers; to include facilitating team meetings, establishing and executing proposal development timeline, providing guidance on preparation and assisting with the collection of documents from all collaborators.
- Maintain institutional/unit data, write and maintain templates/forms/boilerplate text, and other support documentation for proposal development activities (i.e., facilities or resource descriptions, letters, data management plans).
- Provide targeted support and grantsmanship mentoring for new investigators or investigators pursuing new directions/lines of funding.
- Engage with internal and external partners to develop research collaborations and serve as a liaison to sponsor organizations (federal/state government, private foundations, and companies).
- Collaborate with stakeholders and business partners within the college (post-award manager, BSC, Dean's office) and across university (VPREDKE etc.).
- Perform analysis and report for internal decision-making (ROI, efficiency rates, hit rate) and external reporting.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Periodic:
- Attend and make presentations at conferences and workshops.
- Develop 2-3-year future grant submission calendar for faculty as request.
- Conduct training sessions on grantsmanship topics relevant to the research community.
- Engage in strategic planning activities with unit leadership and researchers/research teams regarding goals and expectations for extramural funding, teaming initiatives and other priority areas.
- Engage in critical review or editing of technical project reports (post-award).
- Conduct ROI and efficiency analysis of sponsored research efforts.
Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree from an accredited institution
- Five years of related experience in research proposal or other academic/technical writing, review or editing.
- Proven experience in designing and executing successful proposal development strategies, to include alignment of sponsor and institutional priorities.
- Self-starter and entrepreneurial with strong attention to detail.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional and courteous manner.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong time management and prioritization skills.
- Experience with Microsoft applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Access.
- Experience with Adobe applications for PDF creation, conversion, modification.
- Criminal Background Check (CBC).
- Personal computer with Microsoft Office, Adobe Professional and other related applications.
- Standard office equipment.
- Webcam or other videoconferencing equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctoral Degree from an accredited institution.
- Certified Research Administrator (CRA).
- Grant Professional Certification (GPC).
- Experience with either directly managing or assisting with the implementation of a sponsored program and/or in pre-award research administration.
- Similar writing or proposal development experience in higher education.
- Knowledge of UT System rules and regulations.
- Experience with either directly managing or assisting with the implementation of a sponsored program and/or in pre-award research administration.
- Experience with Grants.gov, FedBizOpps, Research.gov and/or Fastlane, eRA Commons, Cayuse, Pivot Foundation Search, Academic Analytics and/or similar systems.
