NDDOT Hiring Salary: $6,590 / month

Summary of Work

We attribute our achievements at the North Dakota Department of Transportation to our exceptional workforce and processes. We are currently seeking a qualified candidate for the Minot District's Construction Section, who will manage state and federal aid highway construction projects.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess excellent communication skills, be detail-oriented, and possess problem-solving abilities. They should have prior experience in communicating with contractors and negotiating change orders for projects. As the Senior Highway Construction Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating all day-to-day activities on construction projects with contractors. You will ensure that the required level of inspection, testing, supervision, and project management is provided to comply with federal requirements for project design, construction, and other engineering duties. Additionally, knowledge of Microstation and survey principles is needed.

The primary duties associated with this position are as follows:

Construction:

  • Maintain an effective working relationship with DOT personnel, contractors, public officials, and the public with open communication to ensure a productive and professional project environment.

  • Oversee work performed on construction projects to ensure that contractors carry out each phase according to plans, specifications, and contract requirements.

  • Coordinate all day-to-day activities related to construction projects, and communicate necessary changes, issues, or schedules.

  • Record and organize all contract paperwork from the project's start to submission of final records.

  • Promote safety in the workplace and conduct safety meetings.

Materials:

  • Ensure that concrete, asphalt, gravel products, and other materials are constructed or installed in compliance with plans and specifications.

  • Maintain NDDOT-required certifications for materials testing, including Concrete Field Tester, Soils Field Tester, Asphalt Mix Controller, Asphalt Pavement Inspection, and other applicable certifications required to supervise tests performed by employees or contractors.

  • In case you lack certification in any of these areas, NDDOT will support you in obtaining the necessary training to obtain certification if you are selected for the position.

  • Prepare daily inspection reports that describe the activities being performed and the equipment being used.

  • Conduct various construction materials tests to ensure that concrete, asphalt, gravel products, and other materials are built or installed in accordance with plans and specifications.

  • Train and mentor construction staff employees on policies, inspection, and materials testing procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management or a related field.
  • And six years of experience in construction management, transportation highway construction, or a related field.
    • Including two years of contracting experience.

OR

  • Associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a related field.
  • And eight years of experience in construction management, transportation highway construction, or a related field.
    • Including two years of contracting experience

OR

  • High school degree/GED and ten years of experience in construction management, transportation highway construction, or a related field.
    • Including two years of contracting experience.

Requires a class D driver’s license for travel to meetings and project locations.?
