Project Overview:
The ML2 Project is the design and construction of a launch platform for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The purpose of ML2, located at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), is to provide a launch platform for the Space Launch System (SLS), an advanced launch vehicle that will fill America's need for deep space missions. ML2 includes many different subsystems that must operate and fit within the constraints of the structure and provide a physical interface with KSC launch sites' ground systems.
Position Summary
- SHORT TERM ASSIGNMENT (6-8 months)
- Reports to the Senior Engineering Group Supervisor.
- Review and prepare high-level engineering drawings and task execution documentation within the Control Systems discipline.
- Properly interprets and applies codes & standards, customer design requirements, and scoping documentation, for the preparation of Control Systems design documents.
Responsibilities
- Coordination with other engineering disciplines, review project requirements, vendor drawings/manuals, Piping & Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs) and Mechanical System Descriptions to determine control and instrument functional requirements, selection of instrumentation in conjunction with process and mechanical requirements.
- Preparation of system design descriptions, logic diagrams and functional block diagrams, specifications, and material requisitions.
- Selection of instrumentation and control valves based on system application requirements.
- Revision of detailed control cabinet drawings.
- Revision of instrument index and I/O list using automated tools, using supplier inputs, as applicable.
- Review of other engineering discipline drawings and close coordination with other disciplines and functions.
- Ensuring that the subsystems design complies with all applicable NASA technical requirements, installation codes, regulations, and standards<
- May interface with Construction and Subcontractors.
- Provide support and coaching for junior and new hire engineers.
- Assist in the input and guidance of corporate engineering database systems that provide design information to construction and startup organizations.
Basic Qualifications
- BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related engineering field from an accredited institution, with nine years of professional experience related to the position responsibilities, or, MS degree in Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related engineering field from an accredited institution, with seven years of professional experience related to the position responsibilities; or in lieu of a degree, fifteen years of professional experience related to the position responsibilities.
- Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident of the US.
- Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Minimum Qualifications
- Hands-on Microsoft 365 office suite, VISIO, and other computer programs.
- Extensive knowledge and application of Codes and Standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, along with effective presentation skills.
- Must have the ability to achieve a Professional Engineer's license within one year of hire.
- Must be able to effectively communicate and work well with others and within a team.
- Must be able to collaborate well with other disciplines and functions.
- Ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience.
- A good knowledge of NASA work methods, installation details, and technical requirements.
- A history of integrating AutoCAD and 3D software to issue engineering drawings and populate database information.
- Automate schematic details utilizing corporate database tools.
