Job Responsibilities
- Configure and implement leak-detection and simulation models for hazardous-liquid pipelines using real-time transient model simulation software and integrate models with SCADA systems.
- Perform simulations of hazardous-liquid pipeline operations and hazardous-liquid pipeline equipment, evaluate proposed operating procedures, and recommend improvements to leak-detection capabilities.
- Prepare cost estimates and budgets and provide oversight of changes.
- Review pipeline systems to identify and establish leak-detection criteria.
- Work with Operations Control and Pipeline Integrity to determine critical assets and prioritization.
- Extract historical data from AVEVA PI System, analyze date using Asset Framework, PI Vision, and Event Frames, and monitor, tune, and verify leak-detection systems.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and American Petroleum Institute standards (API RP 1130, API RP 1175, and API TR 1149) governing hazardous-liquid pipeline leak detection.
- Review leak-detection system performance, including false alarms, with Operations Control.
- Review new leak-detection and simulation technologies, government regulations, and industry standards.
- Develop technologies to improve-leak detection performance.
- Configure and maintain operator trainer simulator using Synergi Pipeline Simulator.
- Provide training to controllers and operators.
- Set up hydraulic simulations in support of Operational Control Center controller training program.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience using Synergi Pipeline Simulator and real-time transient model simulation software.
- Experience using AVEVA PI System, Asset Framework, PI Vision, and Event Frames.
- Experience integrating simulation models with SCADA systems.
- Experience with monitoring, tuning, and verifying simulation results to data.
- Experience with simulating hazardous-liquid pipeline operations.
- Experience with simulating hazardous-liquid pipeline equipment.
- Experience with applying federal and state regulations governing hazardous-liquid pipeline leak detection.
- Experience with applying American Petroleum Institute standards, including API RP 1130, API RP 1175, and API TR 1149.
- Approximately 10% travel.
