Senior Linux Engineer
Sebastian Tech Solutions is seeking an IT Engineer with experience building and maintaining Linux operating systems to join our team in support of a Federal Intelligence Agency contract. Primary responsibilities include providing engineering and administrative support maintaining multiple large Enterprise environments. The supporting infrastructure includes multiple networks spanning multiple security enclaves within a hybrid (Windows & Linux) operating environment.
Shift Schedule: Monday-Friday, Day Shift
Job Responsibilities & Duties:
System Engineering duties include management of both physical and VDI based Linux workstations and servers.
- Identify, design, document, and implement solutions using FOSS, COTS and GOTS products to enhance and meet customer requirements within the operating environment
- Identify, troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve related incidents with both short-term workarounds and long-term solutions
- Support, mentor, and assist remote Tier 1-3 administrative staff with operational incidents and procedures
- Work directly with software and hardware vendors where appropriate.ยท Communicate effectively (in oral and written form) with a variety of individuals and team members in both small and large team environments
- Linux Operating systems as a server or workstation such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, Scientific Linux, Fedora, Oracle Linux, Rocky Linux, Alma Linux, or other distributions
- Strong operational understanding of core concepts like DNS, DHCP, and LDAP
- Technical experience with Kerberos Authentication concepts and/or Microsoft Active Directory domain joined servers and workstations is a plus (SSSD, WinBind, etc.)
- Operating system deployment and Configuration Management via Red Hat Satellite, Foreman/Katello and/or Ansible Tower
- Understanding of SMB/CIFS and NFS file sharing protocols
- Ability to read and write shell scripts in a language like Python, Perl, Ruby, or Bash
- Configuration management coding and use of Anaconda Kickstart, Ansible, Puppet, Chef or other configuration as code products and version control with a code repository such as Gitlab
- Experience reviewing and applying DoD STIG security hardening
Qualifications:
- Active TS/SCI and CI Polygraph security clearance are required
- A combination of a degree based higher education, technical training, or work/military experience in a related field such as computer science, systems administration or systems engineering or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of related systems engineering or administration experience
- Candidate must possess an appropriate and current DoD Information Assurance (IA) Certification to be considered for employment; either valid CompTIA Security+ CE, Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)-Security. CompTIA Security+ CE Certification is the preferred certification
- In addition, candidate must attain the required DoD 8570 Computing Environment (CE) Training within six (6) months of Hire Date.
- United States citizenship or permanent resident
Desired:
- Active DoD 8140 IAT Level III certification
- Knowledge of cloud technologies and environments like AWS, Azure and container technologies like Docker
- Knowledge of virtualization environments like VMware and Citrix
- Experience with other operating systems including other Linux distributions, Unix Distributions and Microsoft Windows
- Experience with storage appliances like NetApp or Isilon
- Exposure to performance monitoring tools used to tune and troubleshoot systems
- Ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve issues related to networking concepts such as web proxies and firewall
- Installation, configuration and management of CUPS print server
- Familiarity with specific customer and mission
- Willingness to travel.
