The Maintenance and Operations Department is seeking (1) Mechanical Engineer II to join the already awesome team taking the Maintenance and Operations Department to the next level of excellence!

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO
The ideal candidate provides technical expertise in mechanical matters, plumbing, and fire protection to the University, such as HVAC, ductwork, piping, controls, energy management systems, fire protection, etc. Reviews engineering proposals, design drawings, written specifications, and shop drawings submitted by consultants and contractors. In addition to supporting the department, the Mechanical Engineer II will also:
- Oversee the campus utility consumption and maintain energy intensity and water usage database. Act as liaison for utility services (e.g., Georgia Power Company, City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management, etc.).
- Monitor campus HVAC control systems’ operational effectiveness and assist the maintenance group by giving advice and instructions to optimize building systems’ operations.
- Provide engineering solutions for the maintenance teams. Assist Zone maintenance teams with writing specifications, providing sketches, and writing the scope of work to be minor maintenance projects’ repair work and alteration or upgrade of the existing mechanical systems.
- Oversee all maintenance Department’s service contracts.
- Maintain the Energy Star database for the facilities.
- Implement a metering and monitoring program for campus facilities. Identify energy-saving projects/opportunities.
- Provide technical assistance to DCS project managers and Renovation Department project managers in identifying and evaluating energy efficiency and sustainable design for University Capital Construction projects.
- Coordinate and assist in technical reviews of construction project documents, including performance site-specific engineering analysis; evaluation of projects involving integrated building energy systems, passive design techniques, complex central plant systems, advanced HVAC equipment, and laboratory control systems.
- Participate in the systems commissioning process to monitor appropriate and through startup and testing of systems, performance to ensure the University is receiving systems that comply with contractual requirements.
- Analyze the existing facilities conditions and identify mechanically and lighting upgrade projects to incorporate with the campus MRFF (Major Repair and Renovation Fund) project list.
- Create and maintain a campus facilities condition report database and prioritize the deferred maintenance items.
- Produce campus utilities consumption data for quarterly reports to the VP of Finance and Administration and yearly reports to the Board of Regents.
- Assists in promoting campus sustainability efforts internally and externally, providing data of gradual improvement of energy and other utility consumption.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical Engineering Technology and four years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.
Preferred Requirements:
- Knowledge of construction industry standards and codes for construction and good engineering practice.
- Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and database programs.
- Ability to work in confined areas, such as tunnels and pits.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle stressful situations.
- Ability to supervise and direct the work of others.
- Ability to plan work to avoid delays and wasted man-hours.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
