Senior Principal Systems Engineer – RapidEdge™ Architect (Hybrid)
Hybrid: Employees who are working in Hybrid roles will work regularly both onsite and offsite. Ratio of time working onsite will be determined in partnership with your leader.
The Mission Systems Engineering Autonomy & Mission Engineering Solutions (AMES) Department is seeking a dynamic Systems Engineer to support our RapidEdgeTM Business area. The successful candidate will have a passion for innovation and the drive to see new technology and capability mature into systems solutions. This role will serve as the Systems Engineering Lead and Architect for RapidEdge™.
The RapidEdge™ Systems Architect will work alongside the RapidEdge™ Program Chief in the development of the Collins RapidEdge™ Development Program, building an open and tailorable architecture that leverages a Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) common architectural approach that is extensible, safe, secure, low risk, best-of-breed, high performing, fast to field, and “optimized for the edge”.
The successful candidate will be part of a distributed team composed of professionals from several disciplines and must have the ability to function well, both alone and with others, and have strong interpersonal skills. This position may require occasional travel (up to 10%.). This position does require that candidate has a final US DoD security clearance, or ability to obtain a final security clearance (US Citizenship is required) in order to access classified information.
Job Responsibilities:
- Serve as the System Architect for a highly complex and strategic development
- Lead and coordinating projects with cross-functional Engineering teams, including technical aspects as well as program cost and schedule
- Develop and maintain governance and process documentation for RapidEdge™
- Work with key stakeholders to develop roadmaps for RapidEdge™
- Influence and guide the Digital Engineering aspects of the RapidEdge™ infrastructure including Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and DevSecOps pipeline deployments
- Responsible for design decisions and acts as design authority for RapidEdge™ development
- Provide technical oversight of the RapidEdge™ family of systems MBSE Model and all Systems designs across the business
- Estimating, tracking, and communicating cost, schedule, and risk in support of RapidEdge™ development activities
- Coordinate across the business and department to ensure program specific RapidEdge™ dependencies are being properly managed and communicated
- Adapt decision-making style based on the situational circumstances
- Use personal experience and best practices to identify issues, potential problems, and risk
- Support on demand internal and external customer demonstrations
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years experience OR In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with autonomous Unmanned Air Systems (UAS) platforms and system architectures
- Experience with MBSE, SysML, Product Line Management, and Cameo Enterprise Architect
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of tasks and lead technical efforts spanning multiple stakeholders, and be able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
- Exceptional communication skills
- This position requires an individual that can perform with minimal direct supervisory support
- The ability to coordinate several complex engineering activities while balancing priorities and schedules is a must
- Experience with Agile development methodologies and application to system development
