Public Allies' primary program model matches full-time apprentices with coaching, training and leadership development in twenty-three sites across twenty states including Chicago.


Position Overview

The Public Allies Chicago Program Team currently consists of one Program Director and two Program Managers who manage and implement a 10-month leadership development program for young adults (Allies) aged 18-30, in partnership with up to 50 government and non-profit agencies.


The Program Manager will manage and coach a group of up to seventeen (will be reduced to 8 when 2 additional program managers are hired) AmeriCorps members - allies - to support success in their service and growth in their leadership. This person will also be responsible for planning and implementing the Ally curriculum as well as assisting the Program Director with Pathways programming (aka Life After AmeriCorps).

This position will work to support the implementation of the program by:

  • Collaborating with the Associate Director/Executive Director to revamp the Pathways program which will include
  • Developing and maintaining relationships that result in career, education, service, and entrepreneurship opportunities for graduating Public Allies and alumni
  • Implementing a multi tiered system of supports design in the pathways program to ensure that every Ally gets the support they need in effectuating their goals following completion of the program
  • Assistance in gathering pathways data and creating an evaluation plan to assess and improve the quality of the pathways programming
  • Leading the planning for YouFair
  • Managing and coaching seventeen (8 allies when Program Managers are hired) Allies, which will include
  • Providing professional development for Allies through individual and group coaching
  • Providing supportive and direct feedback to ensure leadership development and Ally retention;
  • Maintaining accurate member files for respective Allies
  • Ensuring Allies and community partners submit required paperwork and submit required data in a timely manner.
  • Managing and supporting partnerships between PA and partner organizations balancing the needs of the partners and the development of the Ally.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of Ally Training and Learning program (referred to as Learning Community by the team), which will include
  • Creating a training plan and corresponding schedule for the program year
  • Creating or assisting with the development lesson plans for sessions facilitated by staff
  • Collaborating with the Marketing and Communications Manager to ensure members are informed of what will be happening each week
  • Doing outreach for and booking guest speakers
  • Creating a new structure for Ally Led Trainings
  • Creating and implementing an evaluation plan
  • Leading quarterly and annual reviews of the Ally Training program to integrate feedback from staff and Allies to improve program quality as well as ensuring that all content remains relevant to the Allies
  • Integrating pathways specific to content into the Ally Training program
  • Working with Program Director to incorporate second year learning
  • Managing DePaul University Steans Center ABCD Partnership with Learning Community
  • Managing Goldin Institute Gather Platform for second year allies / regional work
  • Supporting the revitalization of our alumni engagement efforts
  • Creating and supporting program innovations that improve quality, increase impact, decrease costs and encourage growth
  • Assisting with other duties as needed which may include ? Partner recruitment (e.g., outreach to past or prospective partners, writing position descriptions, helping to plan and run matching fairs)
  • Ally recruitment (e.g., reviewing applications, interviewing candidates, leafleting and/or making social media posts
  • Compliance (e.g., making sure Allies complete background checks in a timely manner, monthly reviews of leadership journal to ensure completion of timesheets and service reflections, participating in member file audits)
