The Genomic Medicine Unit (GMU) CMC group at Sanofi is dedicated to the establishment of best-in-class manufacturing platforms to support development of life-changing advanced cell and gene therapy products, including recombinant AAV vectors, lentiviral vectors and cell therapy products. Sanofi is looking for an experienced expression platform development professional with experience in viral vector production to join the Genomic Medicine Predevelopment expression platform development located in Waltham, MA in the role of Senior Scientist. The Expression Platform Development team within Sanofi GMU Predevelopment operates with the mission to develop innovative expression vectors and host cell lines for Sanofi’s genomic medicine viral vector production platforms.
We are looking for highly motivated candidates with knowledge of viral vector production platforms and experience in optimization of biologics production through expression vector or host cell line engineering.
The successful applicant will make critical contributions to the development and optimization of GMU CMC’s next generation AAV production platform by working with the expression platform team and other members of Predevelopment, by leveraging their extensive scientific knowledge and hands-on experiences with mammalian expression systems, and through meticulous analytical and critical thinking skills and strong communication capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Independently design, conduct and document molecular biology, cell culture, cell engineering studies to evaluate, develop and establish disruptive and innovative technologies to improve AAV production platforms.
Establish and drive innovation in furthering scientific and process understanding to enhance viral vector productivity and quality.
Present findings/results at internal meetings including team meetings, cross functional meetings and external conferences.
Contribute to the drafting of manuscripts and patent applications
Mentor junior staff as needed
Occasional weekend/holiday work to support ongoing lab activities
Basic Qualifications
PhD degree in Molecular and Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Virology or related discipline with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 8 years of experience or a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience.
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Comprehensive understanding of AAV biology and interplay with helper viruses and the host cell.
Experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry with an excellent understanding of the theory and practice of optimizing and engineering mammalian cells for bioproduction.
Experience in synthetic biology.
Experience in inducible expression systems for mammalian gene expression.
Experience in the development of HeLa-based producer cell lines and/or HEK AAV transient transfection production platforms.
