Savage is seeking a Senior SH&E Manager including subject matter expert (SME) regarding rail operations, who will be responsible for the leading the safety culture of Savage’s Northern Nevada operations in the Mountain Transportation Unit. This position will report to the Transportation Group SH&E Director and it is preferred that this position office out of the Osino Nevada offices near Elko.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Works closely with Site Leadership Team and Front-Line Team Members in implementing Savage’s S7 Delivery System through leading and mentoring safety specialists
  • Works with Functional Support teams, Unit Leadership and Team Leaders in the implementation of Savage’s overall Safety Strategy
  • Supports Team Members in following proper safety rules and processes by completing daily Savage observations and verifying completeness of all assigned safety protocol.
  • Performs and follows-up on safety inspections, safety observations, and audits at operation
  • Works with customer(s) to build a positive and professional relationship and understands their safety expectations and ensures a "No Worry" relationship
  • Provide direction and guidance in accordance with incident management protocol in the event of an occurrence.
  • Conducts appropriate level RCA including Tap Root level if SIF or PSIF incident identifying the Root Cause(s) and making corrections to eliminate recurrence
  • Will learn, teach and re-enforce the basics of the Savage safety tools, such as SHAPs, SPACE and PAZ
  • Balance safety support between all assigned operations
  • Support 60+ team members as they perform their service related duties in the rail, mining, trucking and transloading industries. Moving and managing bulk materials including hazardous materials. (Concentrate, lime, sulfur, caustic, ammonium nitrate etc. etc.)
  • Maximum time in the field interacting with front line Team Members and minimum necessary office related duties.
  • Update the Site-Specific Safety Metrics
  • Review written procedures to work being performed annually or when the work scope changes
What you’ll need to be successful:
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in industrial rail operations (SME) and safety & training areas
  • Safety background preferred but not required
  • Proficient with FRA, MSHA, OSHA, DOT and customer required rules and policies
  • Ability to work outside in various weather conditions and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Good written and oral skills with an ability to communicate with co-workers, customers, and other company personnel
  • Ability to work different shifts and weekends as needed. Some travel may be required
