Overview

Summit has recently begun a transformation of the Procurement function, focusing on developing an organization to be a strategic function implementing a new organizational structure, processes, and systems. This position has primary accountability for leading activities to analyst spend data to synthesize opportunities, measure savings, utilization, and compliance across numerous Corporate Spend categories and programs. The Senior Sourcing Specialist will support the development and execution of category sourcing strategies to leverage suppliers and associated spend, achieve year-over-year savings, effective processes for supplier relationship management and deliver value across the Summit s businesses. The role will be assigned certain spend categories to develop category and sourcing strategies and drive execution of the strategies and approaches. This position is a key leader and contributor to driving best-in-class purchasing capabilities throughout the company, reporting directly into the Strategic Sourcing organization to an assigned Category Manager/Director in Summit s HQ in Denver Colorado.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Support the Category Managers/Directors in the management and analytics on spend of $100-$200 MM.
  • Will be responsible for Strategic Sourcing of various assigned categories ranging from $2M-$10M of spend.
  • Support and assist the execution of the Summit Strategic Sourcing process: development of baseline, supplier evaluation, strategy, requests for proposal (RFP), initial negotiations, contract execution, transition/implementation, savings metrics and supplier management.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders and suppliers to develop relationship management and continuous improvement processes.
  • Support and lead cross-functional category teams through the structured sourcing process.
  • Monitor external factors that influence materials/services pricing and availability.
  • Analyze Category Spend, market conditions and trends, identify/define key category cost drivers.
  • Determine Category Requirements and Develop Category Strategy
  • Prepare RFP and send to Suppliers.
  • Review RFP Submission and Short List Suppliers
  • Negotiate with Select Suppliers and Execute Contracts
  • Develop Implementation and Transition Plans
  • Partner with the Business to develop detailed requirement documents, award scenarios and contract documents (MSA, Statement of Work, Ordering Documents, etc.)
  • Responsible for development, monitoring and reporting performance to the savings/budget commitments through category audits.
  • Utilize quantitative skills to analyze, validate, manipulate, and manage large amounts of data, specific to problem solving, project and decision support, and trend analysis of multi-projects.
  • Develop strategies to optimize material & services spend and consumption while maintaining the best value for Summit
  • Deliver incremental savings, process improvements and improved commercial terms (ie. payment term improvements) that enable Summit's growth objectives
  • Monitor compliance and ensure operational usage against centrally procured contracts; seek to understand compliance issues and drive corrective actions as needed.
  • Develop, maintain, and report on category metrics before and after negotiations.
  • Support an environment that fosters teamwork, collaboration, flexibility and change acceptance
  • Responsible for the identification and implementation of innovation and value creation opportunities for specific sourcing categories to improve performance.
  • Support (through enabling processes and systems) cost reduction and improvement projects

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor s degree in supply chain management, Industrial Engineering or related field required Master s preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years experience in Strategic Sourcing preferred
  • Minimum of 4 years experience in project management, experience in mining, construction materials or industrial manufacturing is preferred
  • Experience managing approximately $2M-$10M spend across various spend categories such as indirect materials, capital expenditures/equipment, direct materials related to mining and construction materials industry
  • Hands-on engineering and/or plant operational experience is a plus
  • Must be experienced in strategic sourcing and have a proven background of successful Sourcing strategy implementation.
  • Experience with:
    • Formal sourcing methodologies
    • Using e-sourcing tools to execute and manage sourcing projects
    • Reviewing and negotiating agreements
  • Ability to Learn: Actively identifying new areas for learning; regularly creating and taking advantage of learning opportunities
  • Attention to Detail: Completes tasks with a concern for all the details involved; monitors and checks work or information to meet personal quality standards. Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail

  • Experience with data analysis and problem solving is also required as well as strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Experience, knowledge or trained in Design for Six Sigma Methodologies highly desired.
  • Ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment
  • 4+ years experience in strategic sourcing and spend analytics.
  • Strong analytical and strategic problem-solving capabilities (MS Excel power user)
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Travel is flexible but could sometimes be 10-30% manageable.

Compensation Range:

$85,000 - $128,000
