Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer, Virtualization Technologies in our Network Operations Center (NOC) in Houston, TX. This is a tier 2 level resource with specialized knowledge and experience in virtualization, enterprise storage systems, replication technologies and DR architectures, storage and backup, networking, and telecommunications. This position will work closely with our team of senior engineers and infrastructure group to maintain, update, and introduce new functionality to the existing environment. This person will also assist in supporting the Windows server environment and other server/storage infrastructure projects will be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

• Work with development and business teams to design and implement infrastructure solutions that best fit the needs, while optimizing costs.
• Provide architecture guidance on designing cloud infrastructure.
• Work with scripting and software-defined infrastructure to define and deploy components.
• Develop common, repeatable, automatable cloud infrastructure blueprints.
• Continuous research and self-training on current and future cloud infrastructure capabilities.
• Develop and test recovery and resiliency strategies across cloud regions.
• Troubleshoot stability and performance issues.
• Develop runbooks and expand team knowledge base to allow other engineers to provide support.
• Provide leadership and mentoring to other cloud infrastructure engineers.
• Participate in 24x7 on-call rotations. Implement monitoring and alerting of cloud infrastructure availability and performance.
• Establish, and regularly report on, cloud infrastructure metrics and SLAs.
• Align solutions with other technology and architecture domains.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of VMware (vCenter, ESXi, UCS and Horizon View)
• Strong hands-on experience on Virtualization like Server virtualization,
• Desktop virtualization, Storage and Network virtualization.
• Knowledge about the hyper-converged technologies like Nutanix, Hyper-flex etc.
• Strong technical knowledge and experience with Hyper-flex appliances and its various models
• Experience with managing multiple vCenter in linked mode
• Extensive knowledge and experience with VDI, background in VMware virtualization (VCP Certification is a plus!)
• Deep knowledge of components of Horizon View.
• Creating a Gold Images and Optimization of the images.
• Advanced skills and experience with VMWare, vCenter, Horizon operation and APIs, vRealize
• Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere technology (HA/DRS/Update manager etc.)
• Experience with vSS (Virtual standard Switch) & vDS (Virtual distributed switch)
• Understanding on vmotion and DR across the DCs
• Good knowledge on VMware licensing and ESXi cluster
• Log analysis and Troubleshooting knowledge of ESXi, vCenter, PSC (Platform Service Controller).
• Ability to support, design, manage, and deploy Azure Solutions and Amazon Web Services(AWS) is a must.
• Advanced technical skills with experience with operating systems such as Microsoft Windows, Linux and UNIX
• Experience in monitoring system status, health and performance
• Ability to diagnose network traces.
• Experience with VMware products are must.
• Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Knowledge of storage systems is a must.
• Strong networking knowledge are beneficial.
• Candidate should possess excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Knowledge on provisioning and decommissioning of LUNs from storage
• Understanding the Hardware and software components Hyper Converged solutions
• Understanding the backup of VMs, snapshot best practices
• Experience in using VMware Converter
• Understanding of Veeam or other Backup and Replication technologies
• Understanding of enterprise storage systems
• Understanding of networking (IP, DHCP, DNS, data center switching)
• Working knowledge or Windows PowerShell scripting experience
• Knowledge of Connectwise Control, Automate and Manage is a plus
• Knowledge of Monitoring and Management Platforms is a plus
• Ability to support, design, deploy, and manage on premise Exchange 2013 and newer
• Ability to support and manage Active Directory 2012 and newer
• Ability to support and manage key services including but not limited to DNS, DHCP, File Service
• Demonstrated knowledge in the support of servers and operating systems Windows 2008 – Windows 2012 R2 and above is a plus.
• Proficiency with AWS

Additional Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or in a “STEM” Major (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience
• Minimum 5 years of experience along with established leadership across the discipline and function
• Experience with administration of Windows and Linux servers.
• Experience with advanced Active Directory design and administration.
• Configuring SSO integration with multiple platforms.
• Experience with containerization and automated deployment.
• Experience with enterprise-scale cloud systems
• Experience evaluating current costs and identifying reduction opportunities.
• Experience with change management.
• A passion for scripting and automating all tasks
• AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification highly preferred
