HDR’s Northern California Transportation Business Group is looking for a Senior Transportation Engineer reporting to the Northern California Highways and Roads Section Manager. The primary duty of Sr. Transportation Engineer is to deliver transportation projects for clients in the Northern California Area.
- This position requires the ability to perform, oversee and direct roadway and highway design services, and the ability to coordinate with multiple disciplines within the HDR team as well as subconsultants. Having project management experience or having been served in a deputy project manager role will be desirable.
- Project involvement will range from leading feasibility analysis to final design and providing design support through the construction phase. Experience should include urban and rural roadway and highway projects, traffic management, site planning, preparation of conceptual alignments, geometrical layout and CAD base alignment plans. System and local interchange design experience, and specifically an understanding of California department of Transportation Standards is desirable for this position.
- The ideal candidate will have experience with the preparation of Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E).
- Coordination of multi-discipline project inclusive of survey, grading, drainage, structures, and utilities and layout of various site items is a requirement. Experience with supervising work of a medium to large staff of professionals and technicians is desired but not required for this position.
- Project Management, quality assurance/control checks, and technical review experience are desired but not required.
- The successful candidate will also be eligible to receive project management training at HDR as part of their career development opportunities. Marketing and project pursuit experience are desired but not required.
- The position would also involve preparation and negotiation of proposals, scopes, budgets, and schedules working in coordination with project managers.
- It would also include day-to-day communication (verbal and written) with the client, supporting and advising junior engineers and technical staff, writing reports and technical memos, coordinating with sub-consultants, and keeping project tasks on schedule and within budget.
- Sr. Transportation Engineer will also be performing other project and proposal related duties, as needed
- Perform other duties as needed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
- 10+ years experience in all aspects of roadway/highway engineering design
- PE required
- Experience with InRoads, MicroStation and GEOPAK or other transportation design software packages
- Microsoft Office experience
- Project Management experience a plus
- Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent

The expected compensation range for this position is $108,185.00 - $182,650.00 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
