The San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board (San Diego Water Board) has an opening for a Senior Water Resource Control Engineer in the Surface Waters Protection Branch. The position location is located in the Mission Valley community of San Diego at 2375 Northside Drive, San Diego, CA 92108 near light rail, freeways, and restaurants.

Under the general direction of the Surface Waters Protection Branch Chief (Supervising Water Resource Control Engineer), the Senior Water Resource Control Engineer supervises multi-discipline technical staff in the Stormwater Management Unit. Consistent with good customer service practices and the goals of the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) Strategic Plan and San Diego Water Board’s Practical Vision, the Senior Engineer is expected to be courteous and provide timely responses to internal and external customers, follow through on commitments, and solicit and consider both internal and external customer input when completing work assignments.

Duties:

Plan, organize, and direct the activities of staff level engineers charged with administering programs pertaining to the regulation of stormwater and other process wastewater discharges under National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits. This includes providing technical and procedural direction, developing and achieving program goals and commitments, and acting in responsible charge of engineering work involved in the review of engineering reports. The Senior Engineer reviews technical correspondence and work products to ensure timely and accurate deliverables. Oversees preparation of agenda items for San Diego Water Board meetings, ensuring written work projects are timely, complete, well written and technically sound, and staff presentations are logical, clear, and convincing. Responsible for the direct supervision, development, and training of staff. Works to expand employee and organizational skills to efficiently provide consistently high-quality work products and customer service, and ensures employees comply with agency workplace policies and expectations. Acts on behalf of the Branch Chief in their absence. Represents the San Diego Regional Board before other Boards, agencies, and groups. Makes presentations before the San Diego Regional Board, and other organizations, concerning Board activities.

Salary information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience.
