Server Engineer (SE)


MUST RESIDE IN MICHIGAN
Detroit / Remote (2 days, after a few months of employment)

A minimum requirement for this position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position. In addition, NO C2C or 3rd parties please.

Summary: The Server Engineer (SE) is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and supporting physical and virtual Windows Servers utilizing VMware ESXi. The SE should have experience with cloud hosting as we are currently researching the option of moving some of the virtual and physical servers to Azure.

In addition, the SE will have system administration duties for our Windows-based network such as managing our Active Directory environment, network administration/analysis/troubleshooting as well physical server and desktop support.

The SE will serve as the main point of contact for all server technology-related requests requiring them to stay up to speed on the technology offerings. The SE will need to become familiar with our specific needs, challenges, and requirements. The individual will guide us on building a strategic roadmap, (engaging 3rd Parties for additional expertise when needed) implementing solutions that provide efficiency and productivity across the organization.

Our ideal candidate is a self-starter with experience in multiple aspects of IT support and is very customer service focused. Customer service skills are VERY important to us. Our clients rely on us for complete management of their IT systems, in addition to daily support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Respond to Level 2 and Level 1 IT service request or incident tickets regarding, but not limited to: network issues, WIFI issues, end user pcs, servers, email, security, backups, and user applications
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis to expedite incident resolution
  • Plans for, responds to and documents service outages and other issues in an Active Directory (AD) environment
  • Installs, supports, upgrades, and maintains servers (physical, virtual, and Azure) running the Windows operating system including physical hardware troubleshooting and part replacements
  • Management, design, and maintenance of an AD environment including Group Policies
  • Responsible for maintaining server backup technology, providing restoration for end user tickets, and reporting regularly on backup status
  • Perform critical design, define best practices and support policies for virtual datacenter environments including – deployment, configuration, fine-tuning, firmware, virtual machine “backups’ and snapshots, upgrades, patches and firmware updates
  • Administer the corporate server environment including user accounts for server and remote access, network security and distribution of network privileges
  • Create reports for performance, troubleshooting, capacity planning and implements changes
  • Perform daily system monitoring by verifying the integrity and availability of servers' physical/virtual hardware, resources, systems, and key processes
  • Evaluate new server application solutions. This includes an evaluation of desired applications and hardware, suitability to the corporate LAN environment, determination of proper configuration and installation of the solution.
  • Assist in the development of policies, procedures, and standards for the corporate LAN environment, including user support, workstation hardware and software, and office automation strategy.
  • Research and implement new hardware/software solutions to ensure network security and accessibility of critical data in response to the corporate need.
  • Research and implement system upgrades, hardware and software as needed.
  • Continuous proactive maintenance, auditing, and monitoring of our Microsoft
  • Serve as a key point of contact and technical resource for troubleshooting, maintaining, and implementing solutions for Azure, VMWare and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Managing change process, participating in CAB including coordinating with users and executing during maintenance windows.
Education/Experience:
  • Four year college or university program certificate; or five to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • MCSE is a plus
  • On call evenings and weekends required
  • Travel required < 10%.
  • Must be physically able to sit/stand at a computer and work in front of a computer screen for significant portions of the work day
  • Requires 100% onsite presence
