Shop Foreman
Job description
Sonoran Steelworks is hiring an experienced and qualified Steel Shop Foreman, a working manager responsible for supervising and coordinating shop activities of workers to ensure work is completed accurately, safely, and timely.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
- Manages work in progress and maintains shop schedule and production from lookahead.
- Ensures all tasks are completed efficiently and safely.
- Plan and direct layout of equipment, workflow, and assembly methods.
- Responsible for tracking shop employee’s hours in Tsheets to ensure work is assigned to the proper job and task.
- Performs standard layouts and set-ups of dimensions and tolerances.
- Provides guidance, assistance, and training to less experienced and new employees.
- Maintains a close working relationship with project manager to ensure proper coordination of responsibility for the project, notifying the project manager of any issues/concerns with drawings, schedule, or materials.
- Recommends changes in schedule, methods, procedures, and improvements where needed for the project.
- Completes required paperwork utilizing PC and/or tablet.
- Maintains a positive work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with vender, co-workers, and management.
- Oversee all personnel issues to include performance, employee relation issues and disciplinary process in conjunction with company policies and management.
- Performs cutting, fitting, welding, and painting tasks.
- Floats to assist field team as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Five (5) years steel welding and fabricating experience, to include structural and ornamental steel, such as stairs, handrails, embeds, canopies, beams, columns, etc.
- Bilingual - Spanish (preferred)
- Previous Shop Foreman experience
- High school diploma (or equivalent), or higher education
- Active driver’s license
- Authorized to work in the United States
- Reliable transportation to/from work in Apache Junction, AZ
- Must be able to read a tape measure and have basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of fractions and degrees
- Advanced knowledge of tool and equipment safety
- Excellent work ethics
- Computer skills and smartphone application savvy (Windows, Microsoft Office, Samsung)
- Must be able to pass criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen
- MIG AWS3G Certification preferred, but not required
- Experience with ProCore and/or FabTrol applications preferred, but not required
Working conditions
- Shift times vary based on season and available sunlight throughout the year. Summer hours are Monday through Thursday 5 AM to 3:30 PM.
- Occasional overtime may be required depending on staffing needs and project deadlines primarily being on Fridays.
- Outdoors working environment; adverse weather and other adverse shop circumstances

- Work up to a 12-hour shift conducting physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
- Lift, push or pull objects up to 70 pounds
- Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects
- Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures
- Ability to reach above shoulder heights and below the waist
- Ability to stoop, kneel, or bend
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
