Salary: Commensurate with training and experience as established by Board policy.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position: Pre-K-12 Social/Emotional Learning Coordinator

Department: Special Services

Reports to: Director of Student Services
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • At least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • First aid training preferred.
  • Experience in the field of social and emotional learning (or related experience) preferred.
  • Educational experience (classroom teaching, coaching, site or district level administration) and/or program implementation in a variety of settings or grades.
  • Deep knowledge of SEL competencies and learning differences frameworks.
  • Have excellent experience in teaching and working with children, adolescents, and adults.
  • Demonstrate the ability to listen well to needs and concerns.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the components of a comprehensive substance awareness program, child growth and development, substance use assessment, and the resources available in the school and community to assist students.
  • Knowledge of office procedures, filing, and computer experience.
  • Able to maintain the confidentiality of students’ records.
  • Neat, well-groomed, professional appearance.
  • Good health, high moral character, good attendance record, and a pleasant disposition.
  • Demonstrates sincere desire to aid all students.
  • A satisfactory report from Criminal Records check.

General Description:

The Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Coordinator plans, implements a comprehensive Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program. The SEL Coordinator will lead professional development in the area of SEL, general information, providing District training, and assisting all staff with district-wide SEL implementation and support. This position requires a flexible thinker who can work collaboratively with various stakeholder groups including teachers, parents, students, administrators, and district staff. Responsibilities include staff development, curriculum development, and counseling/intervention services.

Essential Functions:
  • Facilitate student support groups.
  • Coordinate mental health services.
  • Conduct individual sessions with students per their request.
  • Provide mediation to students, teachers, parents, and families.
  • Implement a SEL curriculum to this district.
  • Early intervention services.
  • Provide PD for staff on SEL topics.
  • Assist the Dean of Culture and Engagement with building level recognition programs.
  • Case Management Services for students and families.
  • Coordinate after school programs (community service, after school clubs, etc.).
  • Facilitate SEL related activities for summer programming.
  • Train students in suicide prevention and bullying/risk reduction.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
  • Helps instill in students and adults the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
  • Conducts other duties related to the social-emotional learning coordinator and duties as assigned and requested by the building principal or superintendent.

Additional Working Conditions:
  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
  • Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions.
  • Occasional interaction among unruly children.
  • Occasional exposure to hazardous materials or to working conditions which require use of special procedures, precautions, or personal protection equipment as specified by Board Policy or OSHA regulations.
  • Complies with drug and alcohol testing according to any/all federal and state laws/regulations.

Terms of Employment:
  • Salary shall be determined annually by the Board of Education’s adopted schedule.
  • Length of contract and compensation will be determined by the Board of Education.
  • The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the district.

Evaluation:
  • This position shall be evaluated by the Director of Student Services using the form and procedures adopted by the Board of Education.
