Job Description:
Summary
The San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden (SLOBG) is seeking a part-time Social Media/Website Coordinator who will support the efforts of our team to effectively promote the organization’s programs and goals to expand the reach of SLOBG in the county and beyond. The position is under the direct supervision of the Director of Communications and Events and hired by the Executive Director.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and update all social media (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram)
- Maintain and update SLOBG website
- Design (for print and web) promotional materials, advertising pieces, fundraising communications, and other materials.
- Weekly and monthly reporting on KPIs
Required skills and experience:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with social media sites - including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
- Proficiency with WordPress - web/content management software
- Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, Canvaa and/or other design software.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred skills and experience
- One or more years of experience as a Social Media Coordinator or similar role.
- Understand SEO and web traffic data; Understand social media KPIs.
- Familiar with web page design and publishing.
Other Duties
- Oversee volunteers as needed.
- And other duties as determined by the Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in horticulture, botany, environmental or plant science-related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have experience in programming irrigation controllers, be familiar with irrigation products and have good judgment for water needs for plants during the changing seasons; and must be familiar with handling, care and use of garden implements, tools and equipment of the horticultural trade. Skills in plant pruning, management of plant nutrition, and knowledge of plant disease and insect control required with an emphasis upon biocontrol, as well as possessing a base knowledge of California and mediterranean climate plants is required. Certification through the ASHS and GIS experience are a plus.
The candidate must be comfortable working outside in various weather conditions, have an eye for detail, possess excellent computer skills, including database creation and management; ability to work cooperatively with different types of personalities; excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be able to employ tact and diplomacy in dealing with the public and staff; excellent organizational and time management skills; knowledge and understanding of non-profits and their role in the community; and a commitment to SLOBG’s goals and mission.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to synthesize general business publications and maintain professional business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS AND REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standards exist. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or schedule form.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Work may include need for regular bending, lifting, walking on uneven terrain. Position includes working in outside environment.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
A valid California Class “C” driver’s license or ability to obtain one. Valid Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED certification within 6 months of appointment to position.
