DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Social Worker 2 for the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, you will be responsible for an assigned caseload in a residential center providing nursing home, domiciliary, and personal levels of care. Your primary duties will include completing admission and discharge procedures, providing ongoing casework and medically related services, working with an interdisciplinary team to identify and meet the needs of the residents, maintaining required documentation, and knowing and complying with the requirements and standard of regulating bodies, i.e., Health Department, DHS, and the VA. Additionally, you will serve as coordinator for behavioral and psychosocial intervention services with the health care community. You will also serve as the director's designee on the facility's resident abuse investigation team.

  Full-time employment (7.5 hours/day; 37.5 hours/week).
• Work hours are 1st shift (8:30 am to 4:30 pm), Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Two years of experience as a Social Worker 1 or Forensic Social Worker 1 (commonwealth titles) (must have been employed in a commonwealth social worker job title on September 8, 2008, with continuous commonwealth employment); or
• Two years of experience as a Social Worker 1 or a Forensic Social Worker 1 and a bachelor’s degree in social work or social welfare; or
• Two years of professional experience providing direct public or private social work services, and a bachelor’s degree in social work or social welfare; or
• A master's degree in social work or social welfare.
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requriements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

• All employees in the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs require an active license as a Social Worker or Clinical Social Worker issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors.

Legal Requirements:

• A conditional offer of employment may require satisfactory completion of a medical examination and drug screening.
• This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
  • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
