The Portage County Health and Human Services department has a full time Social Worker position open that is part of the Initial Assessment Unit. This position takes general information/service requests and child abuse and neglect reports through phone, email, fax or in person, and refer callers to other services as appropriate. Enters Access reports in Wisacwis in accordance with agency policy and state standards.

Starting pay: $28.96 per hour

What are the primary job duties?

Provision of Access Services for the Division of Children and Family Services

• Use Social Work Methods, principles, and interviewing techniques with mandated and non-mandated reporters to obtain information necessary to determine the screening decision for Access reports. In relation to Child Protective Services (CPS) reports, information must be gathered in accordance with the State CPS Access Standards. Must develop a cooperative working relationship with other community systems. Document all referrals of suspected abuse or neglect in eWiSACWIS system. Conduct follow up calls to collateral contacts for assistance to the CPS Supervisors for screening and assignment decisions.
• Consult with other agency staff to provide or gather additional information needed to complete Access reports or other reports made to agency in accordance with agency policy and Access standards.
• Knowledge of and practice of statewide safety assessment standards. Perform all job tasks in a safe manner in accordance with agency policy/practices and state standards.
• Completes Access reports in Wisacwis according to agency policy and state standards.

Provision of Kinship Care Services to Families

• Complete kinship assessments to determine eligibility of relatives.
• Complete yearly kinship reviews including background checks, home visits and safety checks.
• Assist relatives in making any necessary referrals for other services, including Badger Care and child care assistance.
• Enter information and placements into the eWisacwis system.

What are the minimum requirements?

• Bachelor degree in social work or other human services field required.
• One year experience in child protective services within the last five years preferred.
• Certification or eligible for certification in Wisconsin as a social worker preferred.
• One year direct social work experience working with children and families or individuals with mental health or chemical dependency issues preferred, or Master of Social Work Degree required.
