ABOUT THIS POSITION
Waystar is seeking apprentice candidates interested in pursuing a career in Computer Science and Application Development. Apprentices will work on the extension and enhancement of Waystar’s existing Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offerings under the close mentorship of Senior-level Engineers. Apprentices will also be engaged in the development of internal tools and systems to support Technology department processes and operations. Project work will be both challenging and rewarding. Projects will be designed to address real-world Business needs. Apprentices will gain access to both structured training and instruction on technologies, in a program tailored to our organization’s goals and to the personal skill set/interests of the program participant.
WHAT YOU'LL DO

Develops and enhances existing systems
-
Implements Green Field Development projects for internal systems

Participates in the solicitation of systems requirements from business users and project stakeholders
-
Pair programs with peers and mentors
-
Reports statuses, identifies blocking issues, and collaborates on application design in team Stand-Up meetings
-
Participates in regular one-on-one meetings with the Manager
-
Adheres to best practices in coding techniques and application implementation

Coordinates with Quality Assurance professionals in the development of application test suites and the resolution of identified issues

Continually enhances knowledge of Application Development, development operations, and infrastructural concerns through on-site training courses, online training resources, independent investigation, and feedback from mentors
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
-
Active enrollment in a Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or Computer Engineering program from a regionally accredited institution

An eagerness to learn, adapt, and accept challenges in a dynamic team environment
Desirable Qualifications:
-
Experience in Application Development using C#
-
Core understanding of web development technologies, including HTML, HTTP, REST, ASP.NET, AJAX, JavaScript, JQuery, CSS, XML, and SQL

Experience with relational data stores

Exposure to the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), and a working understanding of both the Waterfall and Agile methodologies

Ability to communicate technical concepts in written, verbal, and presentation formats
Learning Objectives & Program Outcomes:

Receive mentorship and guidance from a dedicated, Senior-level Developer on a daily basis

Study for and attempt the Microsoft Exam 70-483 (Programming in C#)

Develop a working understanding of modern Application Development technologies including:

Work within a team using Agile Project Management practices
