Solutions Architect

Are you passionate about technology and delivering solutions that impact our nation’s most beautiful, iconic, and cherished resources? Cynerge Consulting is seeking a Solutions Architect to join a talented, tight-knit, and rapidly growing team supporting the U.S. Forest Service!

At Cynerge, our work aides the U.S. Forest Service in its mission to manage and preserve our nation’s forests and grasslands. Our solutions have supported a range of teams and personnel, from researchers in the Rockies to the smokejumpers, a highly specialized team of skydiving firefighters, and the app dev and infrastructure teams behind the scenes. We’ve successfully delivered DevSecOps at scale, pioneered the use of automation and CI/CD, and are actively migrating a portfolio of more than 80 applications to more available and accessible cloud environments.

Role and Responsibilities

As a Solutions Architect, you will be responsible for directly supporting the efforts of the Chief Technical Officer (CTO). We have a growing portfolio of applications under our management and have been supporting them for over 15 years. Solution Architects will work with stakeholders in an agile Development, Security and Operations (DevSecOps) environment toward accomplishment of the goals and objectives of a multi-year IT Strategic Plan and Technical Roadmap. They will play a key role in multiple stages of the Agency IT solution lifecycle from Ideation through Service Delivery and Operations.

This position is a hands-on architecture leadership position. It requires the ability to assist with solution architecture - taking new business requests and determining what can be done to meet the business and field needs. Assessing legacy services and applications, researching the potential options, and conducting a path analysis and providing recommendations is a regular activity. You will assist the CTO in defining which technology and direction should be for specific business needs.

CTO Solution Architects will create conceptual and logical specifications for all aspects of solution design through collaboration with business, enterprise, application, security, and infrastructure architects. The Solutions Architects shall make recommendations on software, hardware, hosting services, and communications to support the product vision as well as provide for present and future cross-functional requirements and interfaces based on solution and program increment roadmaps.

Day to day, sample responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Collaborate on the technical efforts of teams responsible for modernizing a high-profile public-facing application portfolio essential to the field operations of the Forest Service
  • Develop solution and technical architecture designs
  • Support agile design and development activities
  • Create conceptual and logical specifications through collaboration with business, enterprise, application, security, and infrastructure architects
  • Make recommendations on software, hardware, hosting services, and communications to support the product vision as well as provide for present and future cross-functional requirements and interfaces based on solution and program increment roadmaps
  • Ensure systems are compatible and in compliance with IT standards for architecture, including the implementation of specific solutions for on-premises and cloud platforms, integration with other systems, and their external interfaces
  • Collaborate with technical teams to develop artifacts for reuse by subsequent projects
  • Conduct application rationalization efforts for legacy applications and services
  • Model business and systems processes based on findings through use case scenarios, workflow diagrams, and data models
  • Develop and refine system architectural concepts and integrated architectural models
  • Analyze and document requirements and functional specifications
  • Identify options to solve business problems and comparison of alternatives based on stakeholder criteria
  • Develop high-level cost and schedule estimates for the introduction of new systems and modernization of existing systems
  • Describe the structure, characteristics, behavior, and other aspects of systems to project stakeholders
  • Monitor the progress of systems engineering efforts and assistance with resolution of issues and mitigation of risks
  • Monitor the progress of agile application design, development, and testing efforts and assistance with resolution of issues and mitigation of risks
