The Electrical-Electronics Category Sourcing Manager provides critical leadership for all ITW segments globally. This role will create and deliver sourcing strategies. The Manager will play a significant role in managing projects and providing project support for sourcing events that span multiple Segments of ITW, where synergies crossing common supplier base or materials are to be explored and leveraged.
In this role, the Sourcing Manager will act as a resource to mine and analyze data across multiple ERP systems and utilize standardized tools such as MS Excel and Market Intelligence Portals to synthesize marketplace information into a cohesive sourcing strategy. General working knowledge of one or more of the following commodity categories will benefit the performance of the individual in this role: PCBA’s, Electronic Components, Cables, Wire Harnesses, Electrical Components, and Various Mechanical Components.
In light of ITW Automotive’s drive toward Battery Electric Vehicle penetration, this role will also have direct engagement and a need to understand Materials Electrification technology as found in complementary systems architecture. This is primarily expected to understand the material specifications that will enable ITW products to win in the new landscape, emphasizing plastic resins, metals, and electronic-based core materials.
Key Deliverables
Create Data-Driven Strategies to:
- Review and cleanse existing internal and external data to evaluate and communicate opportunities
- Capture commodity market data and create comprehensive market and supplier summaries
- Define supplier segmentation and drive volumes toward preferred suppliers and away from exit suppliers (Contract Manufacturers, Distributors, and Electronic Component Manufacturers). Collect performance data to drive supplier segmentation. Utilize diverse suppliers where possible.
- Where appropriate, protect ITW’s long-term interest with formal contracts or agreements between ITW and its suppliers. Have a working knowledge of regional legal risks and commercial terms and conditions, applying those to contracts as required. Monitor contract performance and assess/report risks to business units and across platforms.
- Provide Divisions the best practices, Do’s and Don’ts of how to spec in E&E materials along with a Preferred Supplier recommendation for each assembly (i.e., PCBA) vs. component (i.e. semiconductor).
Support Management of “80” Supplier Base:
- Review & manage existing supplier performance together with segment/division sourcing leads.
- Leverage and introduce good performing supplier(s) capacity & capacity across multiple segments/divisions.
- Develop potential new supplier(s) to match up with business needs. Improve or exit poor performing suppliers.
- Supplier qualification & evaluation processes.
- Cultivate supplier relationships up to the executive level(s) of the supplier(s).
- Manage or support the negotiation with suppliers including but limited to contract, cost, resource, service etc.
- Manage or support regular communication such as routine business calls/meetings, risk mitigation, QBR, NPD etc.
- Review and renew supplier strategies by category or project.
Drive Cost Savings and Operating Income Improvement
- Achieve Yearly Savings targets; drive those savings collaboratively with other functional areas to protect OI goals/yield (R&D, Innovation, Business Development).
- Drive cost savings via value engineering, RFQ’s, etc. Support action plans and project management of implementations to ensure savings are realized.
- Work with ITW divisions to obtain and validate commodity sourcing requirements
- Work with the supply base to ensure a timely and efficient RFQ process with cost transparency
- Manage component pricing well, via training others to effectively manage electronic component price registrations, creating and maintaining a Components database, price harmonization, etc.
- Leverage ITW’s supplier relationships and spend to drive results.
- Use internal data sources for Spend, Category Management, Tracked Initiatives, external Market intelligence on various Categories, and analyzing those sources to develop conclusions and priorities on a routine basis.
Drive Innovation and Growth:
- Support ITW’s organic growth goals by engaging with engineering and innovation teams in NPD projects on a regular basis globally.
- Deeply understand trends in automotive, IIOT, and other industries related to ITW’s applications.
- Ensure ITW gets Intellectual Property rights for development work; work to protect ITW’s IP.
- Integrate supplier feedback and technical capabilities with business unit leadership to deliver existing product enhancements, expedite the roll out of future products, and contain market inflation.
Risk Management
- Track and address commodity shortages, price increases, tariff mitigation, Force Majeures, and other events to ensure supply continuity. Train divisions to do the same.
- Train divisions on how to use the SiliconExpert tool.
- Create stocking agreements (MSA’s if possible) with major distributors
- Manage various risks (lifecycle, lead time/availability, sole sourcing, financial, supplier selection, warranty, etc.) and set up ITW divisions to reduce risk.
- Communicate proactively with business leadership when market trends and/or risks are identified within the portfolio of businesses. Create recommendations and action plans to mitigate those risks within the business units and across platforms
- Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Electronic -Electrical Engineering, or Supply Chain Management-based discipline
- 5+ years of work experience in a direct material sourcing, supply chain, engineering, or operations capacity
- Strong knowledge of the electronics supply chain, electronics best practices, and strategic sourcing.
- Experience communicating to Executive stakeholders and prioritizing the overall mission
- Experience in EMS, Electric Vehicles, Semi-Conductor, Electronic-Electrical Distribution is preferred.
- Experience in innovation projects is preferred.
- Implementing supply management scorecards, accountability matrices and subsequent negotiation/supplier alignment on business interests.
- Ability to prioritize and apply the ITW 80/20 principle to all projects and initiatives
- Knowledge and experience of Design for Manufacturing and VAVE are desired
- People manager skills, Self-management, negotiation skills, and experience assessing supplier capabilities are expected
- Exceptional analytical (e.g. financial data analysis and budget planning) and communication skills
- Willing and able to travel internationally and domestically on a regular basis.
