Job description
Science Systems and Applications, Inc (SSAI) has an opening on a fully-funded NASA project for telecommunications engineering support. SSAI, is seeking a Systems Engineering SME to support an ongoing effort in Greenbelt, MD at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC).
SSAI has a long history at NASA GSFC as a leading provider of science and engineering services throughout all phases of the program life cycle and across the entire space systems architecture, including space and ground assets.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Systems Engineering SME will provide telecommunications engineering support to a project which primarily involves leading/helping tactical and strategic planning, scoping of next generation architectures, designs and implementation plans for new projects, generating requirements, analysis, and other related documents that are delivered to the project for implementation/consideration, and by directly supporting the government in reconciling products generated by contractors that support the project.
Work will be performed primarily onsite at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD or at the White Sands Complex, NM, and may also include travel to other ground systems facilities. This support is to ensure continuity of key in-progress project efforts and planning, and may include but not be limited to the following:
- Contribute to the risk and issue management processes, and the logical and systematic capture and refinement of concepts into total system solutions that are considerate of constraining factors.
- Support requirement definition/analysis, specifications/design of space segment/component key interfaces.
- Contribute to operational improvements recommendations to ongoing mission operations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering from an accredited institution, or equivalent years of practical experience.
- 10 plus years in a technical/leadership role supporting NASA/TDRS Mission Operations and Communications.
- Possess technical expertise and leadership abilities to interact with senior NASA management at GSFC and NASA HQ.
- Possess significant working knowledge of mission operations, developing studies, and recommending operational improvements.
- Extensive experience with ground systems and the systems integration of hardware and software used to evaluate and meet TDRS mission requirements.
- US Citizenship required. Must be able to pass a Government background investigation.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Working knowledge of GSFC engineering development practices is desirable.
- Working knowledge of telecommunications theory and the project customer’s systems and interfaces.
- Knowledge of customer’s previously completed and on-going projects, and operational familiarity with NASA processes.
- Working knowledge of the project’s Configuration Management and Sustaining Engineering practices.
